Introduction: Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) is a degenerative neurogenic disorder characterized by multiple symptoms affecting the movements and autonomic nervous system. It reduces the function of various types of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. MSA causes some movement disorders such as dysarthria that is one of the most common symptoms in these patients. The first neurological sign that sometimes progresses is the complete inability to produce speech. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of an intensive voice therapy based on the principles of Lee Silverman Voice Therapy (LSVT) on improving acoustic features, intelligibility, and quality of life index of the patients with MSA. Materials and Methods: The patient was a 57-year-old woman with MSA disorder. Acoustic assessments of voice, intelligibility, and voice handicap index were performed before and after the treatment program according to LSVT principles. Results: Acoustic values such as intensity, frequency, and harmonic to noise ratio increased, and jitter and shimmer parameters decreased. Amount of perception of intelligibility increased. A significant decrease in the scores of the quality of life index related to voice handicap was observed. Conclusion: After treatment by intensive voice therapy, the acoustic assessment revealed improvement in all voice parameters. The perceptual assessment showed improved intelligibility and increased the patient’s quality of life. Intensive voice therapy based on LSVT principles effectively improves the acoustic features, which subsequently cause intelligibility to be more comprehensible. It generally improves verbal communication, which has a positive effect on the patient’s quality of life.

Objective. To arrange and test for its psychometric properties Lithuanian version of Sleep Apnea Quality of Life Index and assess quality of life among snoring and obstructive sleep apnea patients before and after the treatment. Material and methods. Cross-cultural adaptation of Lithuanian version of Calgary Sleep Apnea Quality of Life Index was accomplished according to generally accepted methodology. In total, 36 (29 males and 7 females) patients (mean age, 41.1±9.7 years) suffering from socially disturbing snoring and obstructive sleep apnea were included into the study. All patients underwent complete full-night polysomnography (mean apnea/hypopnea index, 12.7±11.2) and were treated with two sessions of radiofrequency tissue ablation at the palatal and tong base (if it was necessary) levels. Lithuanian version of the Calgary Sleep Apnea Quality of Life Index was presented before the treatment with radiofrequency tissue ablation and in the period of 2 to 3 months after the treatment. Thirty-five patients repeated the same questionnaire after three weeks to assess the reliability of scores. Results. The Cronbach’s α coefficients of internal reliability were above the standard (0.7 for groups) in all subdomains and domains. Test-retest correlation coefficients for each domain (ranged from 0.92 to 0.94) were statistically significant (P<0.0001). Lithuanian version of the questionnaire was found to be responsive to clinical change. A statistically significant difference in the mean Sleep Apnea Quality of Life Index scores in the study group patients before and after the surgery was found in all daily functioning subdomains and social interactions domains. Conclusions. Overall, the results of the present pilot study demonstrate that the Lithuanian version of Sleep Apnea Quality of Life Index is applicable for clinical purposes.

Objective. Investigation of quality of life (QL) in patients, suffering inoperable forms (locally-spread) of mammary gland cancer (MGC), before and after conduction of neoadjuvant courses of systemic polychemotherapy (SPCHTH) and selective intraarterial polychemotherapy (SIAPCHTH) in combination with SPCHTH. Маterials and methods. Complex treatment was conducted in 154 patients, suffering locally-spread MGC T4A-DN0-3M0 in a period 2000 -2017 yrs, on base of Donetsk Regional Antitumoral Centre and The University Clinic of Odessa National Medical University. All the patients were divided into two groups. Tо Group I (control) were included 65 patients, suffering inoperable forms of a locally-spread MGC, to whom as a neoadjuvant course a SPCHTH was conducted; and to the Group II (investigating) - 89 patients, suffering inoperable forms of locally-spread MGC, to whom a SIAPCHTH was conducted as a neoadjuvant course. Results. Through the period of treatment a wave-like dynamics of the quality of life index was observed, which indicated a definite advantage of SIAPCHTH over SPCHTH. A limited statistically trustworthy difference in favor of regional polychemotherapy was formed between the Groups of patients in accordance to the quality of life index. Conclusion. Investigation of quality of life constitutes a secure, informative and economic method of estimation of a patient state of health on the groupings and the individuals levels. In oncological investigations the QL assessment constitutes an important criterion of the treatment efficacy estimation and has a prognostic significance. Estimation of quality of life in clinical investigations improves the investigation quality itself.

Osteoporosis is an alarming issue in the society today. It is continuously increasing its signicance with increasing elderly population and is affecting both the sexes at different degrees. It is characterized by low bone mass with microarchitectural deterioration of bone leading to enhanced bone fragility, thus increasing the susceptibility to fracture. Taking into account the references available in various Ayurvedic classics it can be correlated to Asthikshaya. Asthikshaya occurs due to decrease in strength of Asthi Dhatu chiey due to Kala, Swabhava and Vata Prakopa. International Osteoporosis Foundation estimated that the annual direct cost of treating osteoporotic fractures has increased grossly. In India the general population is not much aware about the hazardous complications of osteoporosis. The modern pharmacological treatment is long and beyond the nancial reach of common people. Therefore the best way to deal with it is to prevent this as early as possible. To achieve this aim a clinical study was conducted to evaluate the effect of an Ayurvedic Formulation known as Eleg Fem capsules (Asthishrinkhalaadi Yoga) in osteoporotic patients. In the clinical trial 30 patients above the age of 40 years with low BMD T-Score were registered from OPD and IPD of Kayachikitsa department of Rajiv Gandhi Govt. Post Graduate Ayurvedic College and Hospital Paprola, Kangra. Out of 30 patients, 27 completed the trial and 3 patients were drop out. Criteria of assessment of patients was change in bone mineral density (BMD T- Score) and change in the score of Quality of Life Index Questionnaire for Osteoporosis (QUALEFFO-41). All the registered patients were given the formulation for 6 weeks. Improvement was observed with statistically signicant results on mean BMD TScore and moderately signicant result on Quality of Life Index scoring. The study revealed that the Eleg Fem capsules (Asthishrinkhalaadi Yoga) is a safe and effective therapy in the Osteoporotic patients.
