Over recent years, new rare minerals have been discovered in the alkaline rocks of the Ukrainian Shield. Agpaitic varieties of alkaline magmatic and metasomatic rocks turned out to be especially abundant in rare minerals. Numerous findings are related to alkaline metasomatites which are considered to be fenites and apofenite albitites of the Dmytrivka quarry. It is well known primarily by the presence of various accessory (Nb, REE, and Zr) minerals, as well as silicate and oxide minerals that are rare for Ukraine. The most common albite microcline fenites of this quarry are characterized by rare-earth mineralization, whereas the concentration of REE decreases in apofenite albitites and Zr and Nb increase. New rare minerals were also found in the essentially albite rock with astrophyllite, alkaline pyroxene and amphibole of the Malatersa massif and agpaitic phonolites of the Oktyabrsky massif. In the rocks of the mentioned massifs and occurrences of alkaline rocks the most interesting are the findings of the perraultite — jinshajiangite series. They were found in three points of the Azov area and include 1) perraultite and jinshajiangite in the alkaline metasomatites of the Dmytrivka quarry; 2) only perraultite in agpaitic phonolites of the Oktyabrsky massif (Kam’yana gully); 3) jinshajiangite in a veined albite rock among the gabbro of the Malatersa massif. Baotite and minerals of the hejtmanite — bafertisite series were also found in the metasomatites of the Dmytrivka quarry. The latter belong to intermediate varieties in terms of MnO (10-17 wt.%) and FeO (10-17 wt.%) which distinguishes them from Fe-rich bafertisite from other regions. A silicate mineral with high content of Na, Zr, Mn and elevated Ti and Nb is rarely observed as small inclusions in the kupletskite grains from alkaline metasomatite of the Dmytrivka quarry. According to the chemical composition it was previously diagnosed as janhaugite. Tainiolite was found in some occurrences of alkaline metasomatites in the Azov region. In addition small aggregates of the REE-enriched epidote were found in fenites of the Kaplany village, which is probably the first finding in Ukraine. Two new Zr minerals have been found in the aegirine syenites of the Korsun-Novomyrhorod pluton: elpidite and mineral with a high content of Y2O3 (13-14 wt.%) (Y-hagatalite ?).

<p>Loess-palaeosol sequences are the most intensively studied terrestrial archives used for the reconstruction of late Pleistocene environmental and climatic changes in the Sea of Azov region, southwest Russia. Here we present a revised luminescence-based chronostratigraphy and a multi-proxy record of late Pleistocene environmental dynamics of the most complete and representative loess-palaeosol sequences (Beglitsa and Chumbur-Kosa sections) from the Azov Sea region. We propose a new chronostratigraphy following the Chinese and Danubean loess stratigraphy models that refines the subdivision of the last interglacial palaeosol (S1) in two Azov Sea sites, resolves the uncertainty of the stratigraphic position of the weakly developed paleosol (L1SSm) in Beglitsa section, and allows direct correlation of the Azov Sea sections with those in the Danube Basin and the Chinese Loess Plateau. More importantly, it adds important data to better constrain local and regional chronostratigraphic correlations, and facilitates the interpretation of climatic connections and possible forcing mechanisms responsible for the climatic trend among these regions. In addition, a general succession of environmental dynamics is reconstructed from these two vital sections, which is broadly consistent with other loess records in the Dnieper Lowland and Lower Danube Basin, demonstrating similar climatic trends in these regions at glacial-interglacial time scales. However, differences in details were also identified, especially for palaeosols developed during the last interglacial period, and the cause of these dissimilarities between loess records appears complex.</p><p>Furthermore, our results have important implications for the chronostratigraphic representativeness of Beglitsa as a key loess section and the reconstruction of the temporal and spatial evolution of late Pleistocene palaeoclimate in the Sea of Azov region.</p><p> </p>

The object of the research is the peculiarities of the historical process on the Kerch Peninsula in the context of the local history of one of its regions. The authors conduct a detailed study of the most inhabited region of the Crimean Azov region – the Adzhiel tract, located in the western part of the peninsula to the territory adjacent to the Kazantip Bay. This gully, which goes in the north-western and south-eastern direction, fences off a significant part of the Kerch peninsula and represents one of the natural protective boundaries of the Eastern Crimea. The subject of research is to reconstruct the historical picture of the area, to define the main results and prospects for further research. Relying on a wide range of sources, primarily on the archaeological material of their own perennial excavations in the specified area, with the use of the source analysis method, the authors consider the known facts and events of the ancient history of the Kerch Peninsula in a new way. The methodological basis of the work is objectivity and historicism, which contributed to conducting of unbiased research. The novelty of the work lies in the fact that for the first time on a wide material, the stages of the historical development of one of the regions of the Kerch Peninsula were highlighted and the actual directions for further research in this area were identified. Due to the abundance of water and fertile soil, the Adzhiel tract was almost always inhabited by people. However, the most intense events occurred in the tract in the era of the Bosporus kingdom, when a system of defensive fortifications of the western borders of the state functioned here. Perhaps this system was more complicated than it previously seemed. This is indicated by the remains of another, previously unknown tower discovered by the authors in 2018. Thus, the authors conclude that the further prospects of research in the Adzhiel tract are connected both with the detailed reconstruction of the defence system of the Bosporus on the western frontiers of the state and also with the continuation of the study of Christian antiquities, including medieval time, and the religious life of the population of the Khazar Khaganate.
