The self-healing ceramic coating against oxidation for carbon/carbon composite was fabricated via preceramic polymer pyrolysis process using polysilazane as preceramic and MoSi2, B4C powders as fillers. By means of SEM and XRD, the phase compose and microstructure of coating were characterized, and preliminarily study on its anti-oxidation ability and thermal shock resistance were conducted. The results showed that, the coating is composed of the resisting oxidation layer and the sealing layer. The thickness of the coating is about 50μm, and the coating is uniform and densified. Good contact at the interfaces is visible on the SEM photograph. At 1300°C temperature, the thermal shock resistance test was conducted 50 times, the weight loss rate was 2.12%. In range of 1200°C~1500°C, the anti oxidation ability of the coating is good.

Purpose: A new high thermal stability single layer glass–ceramic coating system designing for applied on various grade of steel alloy has been developed in this work. Design/methodology/approach: The thermal shock resistance, thermal conductivity and thermal expansion of the coating system were evaluated by using suitable standard tests. Some crystalline agents (Lithium oxide Li2O, Titanium oxide TiO2, Zircon ZrSiO4 and Feldspar CaO∙Al2O3∙2SiO2) were add at constant ratio 6% to coating system to evaluate their effects on the resultant coatings. Findings: The results indicate the suitability of these coatings for protection of metal substrate. Also the results show that the properties of resultant coating were hardly affected by composition and concentration of crystalline agent. Research limitations/implications: Coating with lithium oxide has the lowest thermal expansion, which means the highest thermal shock resistance. While, values of thermal conductivity were too close for all types of coating. Originality/value: Generally, the resultant coating properties have been enhanced in all cases; this is associated with the introduce the crystalline agent which lead to the formation of a complex network of crystalline phases.

The SiO2-ZrO2-Al2O3-Cr2O3 film is coated on the surface of stainless steel using analytical reagent TEOS, ZrOCl2·8H2O, Al(NO3)3·9H2O and Cr(NO3)3·9H2O as precursor and basing on mole ratio to calculate through Sol-gel method. The phase transformation behavior,erosion resistance,thermal shock resistance and abrasion resistance of ceramic coating by different heat treatment are studied. The results show that: 1)The SiO2-ZrO2-Al2O3-Cr2O3 gel coatings has non-crystalline structure after the treatment at 700°C and 800°C. New substance is not created below 700°C 2) The stainless steel substrate with ceramic coating has a higher erosion resistance at high temperature (700°Cand 800°C)than that without coating.3) Thermal shock resistance of the samples treated in 700°C is the best which has reached within 17-21cycles (900°C, air cooling). 4) The stainless steel substrate with ceramic coating has a higher abrasion resistance than that without coating. The samples treated at 700°Cand 800°C have the best abrasion resistance.

Sheet steel enamels with mill addition of quartz glass were manufactured successfully in accordance with the ordinary enamel manufacturing technology. The effect of mill addition of quartz glass on thermal shock resistance and acid resistance of enamels was analyzed through XRD and SEM etc. The results show that the thermal shock of the enamel can be increased greatly by mill addition of quartz glass, and there is the rational range of mill addition of quartz glass in order for the enamel to achieve both the superior acid resistance and the excellent thermal shock.
