Abstract Background Learning cooking skills during childhood and adolescence is associated with positive dietary outcomes in adulthood as well as being tracked from adolescence to adulthood. In addition studies have found that perceived competence to be a greater motivator to perform a behaviour than actual competence. However, a lack of validated tools that effectively measure behavioural and dietary changes and other related measures in children is a limitation. Therefore, this research aimed to develop and validate age-appropriate perceived cooking competence measures for younger and older primary school aged children. Methods Two measures of perceived Cooking Competence (CooC11 and CooC7) for older (8–12 years) and younger (6–7 years) children were developed from a critical evaluation of publically available recommendations and expert consultation. The cooking skills within the measures were illustrated by a graphic designer in consultation with a chef and reviewed in an iterative manner by the research team. The measures were piloted for clarity, ease of use and initial face validity. Multiple studies were used for both CooC11 and CooC7 to establish psychometric properties of the measures, temporal stability, internal consistency reliability, construct validity, as well as responsiveness to change for CooC11. Analysis included Exploratory Factor Analysis, Confirmatory Factor Analysis, Intraclass Correlation Coefficients, Pearson’s Correlations, ANOVAs and Cronbach’s Alphas. Results Both measures had high levels of face validity and received positive user feedback. Two factors were shown in both measures with the measures showing excellent temporal stability (ICC > 0.9) and good internal consistency (Cronbach’s Alphas > 0.7). Both measures showed initial discriminant validity, with significant differences (P < 0.001) between those who reported assisting their parents with dinner preparation and those who did not. Additionally, CooC11 was significantly correlated with an adult cooking measure and had a significant responsiveness to change (P < 0.01). Conclusions The CooC11 and CooC7 are the first validated age-appropriate measures for assessing children’s perceived Cooking Competence for ages 8–12 and 6–7 years respectively. They can be used to evaluate the efficacy of children’s cooking intervention studies or school nutrition education programmes.

Objective: To design, develop and psychometrically evaluate a stroke-specific measure of confidence, the Confidence after Stroke Measure (CaSM). Design: Cross-sectional. Setting: Adults in the community. Participants: Stroke survivors and healthy elderly participants. Methods: Questionnaire items were generated based on the literature and qualitative interviews and piloted with expert groups to establish face validity. A 53-item CaSM was administered to stroke survivors and healthy elderly participants in the community. A second copy was posted four weeks later. Completed questionnaires were analysed for extreme responses, missing values, construct validity (factor analysis), convergent validity, divergent validity, reliability (internal consistency and temporal stability) and comparing responses according to age and gender. Results: Stroke ( n = 101) and healthy elderly participants ( n = 101) returned questionnaires. Eight items were removed that had extreme responses and large numbers of missing values. Six items had item total correlations <0.3 and were removed. A further item was removed demonstrating gender difference. An exploratory factor analysis was conducted on the remaining 38 items. A 27-item three factor solution was derived assessing Self-Confidence, Positive Attitude and Social Confidence, which explained 52% of variance. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient demonstrated good internal consistency ( α = 0.94). A test re-test on the 27 items indicated good temporal stability ( r = 0.85, P = 0.001). Conclusion: The 27-item CaSM was a valid and reliable measure for assessing confidence in stroke survivors.

Abstract Background The Lederman Prenatal Self-Evaluation Questionnaire (PSEQ) is used to assess psychosocial adaptation to pregnancy, labor, childbirth, and maternity. The PSEQ is a tool used in various countries and has been translated into Portuguese; however, it needs to be validated in Brazil. This study aimed to analyze the validity and reliability of the PSEQ in Brazilian pregnant women. Method This methodological validity study investigated internal consistency and reliability using Cronbach’s alpha and intraclass correlation coefficients. Construct validity was assessed using Pearson’s correlation between domains and confirmatory factor analysis. To assess concurrent validity, Pearson’s correlation between the different domains of the PSEQ and Prenatal Psychosocial Profile-Portuguese Version (PPP-VP) was determined. The level of significance was set at 5%. Results This study included 399 pregnant women in the northeastern region of Brazil. The internal consistency and reliability of the total PSEQ score were high (Cronbach's alpha = 0.89; intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.95). Validity analysis showed positive and significant correlations between all PSEQ domains, ranging from 0.14 to 0.56. Confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated the following values of goodness of fit: RMSEA = 0.05, SRMR = 0.08, CFI = 0.61, χ2/df = 1.77. The discriminant and concurrent validities of the PSEQ were confirmed. Conclusions The Portuguese version of the PSEQ has adequate psychometric properties and is a valid and reliable tool to evaluate psychosocial adaptation to pregnancy in Brazilian pregnant women.

Objective: To determine face, content, and construct validity, and internal consistency of ROL scale. Methods and Findings: A three-phase study was conducted. First, content analysis of the scale was carried out consulting 10 professional experts. Then, face validity was analyzed with 60 caregivers. Finally, construct validity was evaluated by performing an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) with 110 participants. Internal consistency of ROL scale was also assessed. Face validity of ROL scale reached a high acceptance index in three dimensions: role performance (0.97), role organization (0.98), and response to the role (0.98). Content validity showed coherence, clarity, and relevance of the scale. From factor analysis, three components emerged and were grouped in the same manner for varimax, quartimax, and equimax rotations. Cronbach's alpha was 0.816, which is an acceptable overall value. Conclusion: ROL scale makes objective the concept of role taking in family caregivers of people with chronic disease. It demonstrated to have acceptable reliability, and construct, face, and content validity to be used in the Colombian context. Background: Curiosity is a personality characteristic, which fits with wellbeing and positive functioning. The objective of this study was to assess the construct validity of the Curiosity and Exploration Inventory II (CEI-II) in Indonesia.Design and Methods: The study included 256 undergraduate students who lived in Indonesia, mean age 19.8 years old. The CEI-II measures stretching and embracing using 11 items. The English version of CEI-II was translated into Bahasa. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were addressed to examine internal consistency reliability and the test-retest reliability. To evaluate construct validity, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was used to assess factor structure and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to evaluate the structural model fit of the CEI-II Indonesia version.Results: The study showed Cronbach’s alpha for the internal consistency of the overall CEI-II Indonesia version was 0.77. The ICC for the test-retest reliability ranged between 0.753-0.829. EFA showed adequate with the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin value of 0.86 and the Bartlett’s test of sphericity was statistically significant. CFA tested the second-order model with two-order factors and showed a model fit.Conclusions: The CEI-II Indonesia version indicated acceptable construct validity to evaluate curiosity in Indonesia.

Abstract Introduction The increase in the prevalence of obesity is one of the major public health problems. There is a weak relationship between nutritional knowledge and feeding practices. Studies have evaluated that the associations between obesity and the level of nutritional knowledge and feeding practices in children are scarce. The evaluation of nutritional knowledge and feeding practices should be carried out using validated instruments. Study showed the need to improve the instruments of habit research and feeding practices in children for better evaluation. Objectives: To develop and validate an instrument about nutritional knowledge and feeding practices for use in children from 7 to 11 years, based on the Food Guide for the Brazilian Population. Methods The study filled all the steps expected to validate an instrument: review on the subject, instrument elaboration, Content's Validity (Content Validity Index – CVI) with two groups of judges: 1° – nutritionists and, after adjustments, 2° – multidisciplinary group), FACE Validity, reliability analysis [Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) and Kappa (K), Internal Consistency Analysis - Cronbach's Alpha] and Validity of Construct (Exploratory Factorial Analysis - EFA) The sample was calculated, considering, at least, 10 subjects for each question of the questionnaire. Results Validation occurred in a final sample of 453 children, 46.4% boys and 53.6% girls, mean age 9.45 (SD = 1.44). The validity of the content presented CVI ≥0.80 for relevance in 62.3% of items for nutritionist group and 100% of items for multidisciplinary group), clarity (49.4%, 91.8%), Pertinence (58.8%, 98.4%), respectively. The test-retest had a level of agreement of 84.3% and K=0.740 for the Knowledge Dimension; and the ICC=0.754 for the Practices Dimension. Cronbach's Alpha, for internal consistency analysis, was α=0.589 for the Knowledge Dimension and α=0.618 for the Practices Dimension. The EFA with variance of 47.01% (7.81% at 10.85%), with varimax rotation, it defined five factors for the Practices Dimension: Involvement; Healthy Eating and drinking; Unhealthy eating and drinking; Basic food consumption; Attitudes during the meal. Conclusion The instrument QCPA demonstrated validity and reliability to evaluate nutritional knowledge and practices in children aged 7 to 11 years.

Abstract Background: Occupational back pain is the most prevalent health problem among nurses and needs to be assessed by a valid and multi-factorial questionnaire. The purpose of the present study was to design and develop an instrument based on the PRECEDE-PROCEED model for assessing job-related behaviors that cause low back pain. Methods: First an item pool of 49 items was generated. Then, content and face validity was carried out. Consequently, a cross-sectional study was conducted in Mazandaran, Iran. The questionnaire was distributed among a sample of nurses working in hospitals affiliated to Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences. Exploratory factor analysis was used to determine the factor structure of the questionnaire. The Cronbach’s alpha was estimated to assess the reliability and the intraclass correlation coefficient was calculated to examine stability. Results: In all 155 nurses participated in the study. The mean age of respondents was 34.1 (SD = 7.66) years, and 83.2% were female. Six factors with 30 items emerged from the exploratory factor analysis: knowledge, attitude, self-efficacy, reinforcing factors, enabling factors and behavior that jointly accounted for %66.5 of behavior change variance observed. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient showed excellent internal consistency (alpha=0.92). The intraclass correlation coefficient with 2-weeks interval also indicated that the questionnaire has satisfactory stability (ICC = 0.97). Conclusions: The findings showed that the Occupational Back Pain Prevention Behavior Questionnaire is a reliable and valid instrument for measuring occupational back pain and prevention behaviors among nurses. ABSTRACTAimsTo develop and psychometrically test a multiple choice questions (MCQs)-based quiz of delirium care knowledge for critical care nurses.DesignInstrument development and psychometric evaluation study.MethodsThe development and validation process including two phases. Phase I focused on the quiz development, conducted by the following steps: (1) generated initial 20-item pool; (2) examined content validity and (3) face validity; (4) conducted pilot testing, data were collected from 217 critical care nurses via online survey during 01 October to 07 November, 2020; (5) performed item analysis and eliminated items based on the item difficulty and discrimination indices. The MCQs quiz was finalised through the development process. Then, phases II emphasised the quiz validation, to estimate the internal consistency, split-half and test-retest reliability, and construct validity using parallel analysis with the exploratory factor analysis (EFA).ResultsA final 16-item MCQs quiz was emerged from the item analysis. The Kuder– Richardson Formula 20 coefficient for the overall quiz showed good internal consistency (0.85), and the intraclass correlation coefficient with a 30-day interval also indicated that the questionnaire had satisfactory stability (0.96). The EFA confirmed appropriate construct validity for the quiz, four factors could explain the total variance of 60.87%.ConclusionThis study developed the first MCQs quiz for delirium care knowledge and it is a reliable and valid tool that can be implemented to assess the level of delirium care knowledge.ImpactThis study offers an evidence-based quiz designed for future research and education purposes in delirium care that has significant implications for knowledge test by using MCQs in clinical practice.
