Zirconia is the preferred material for dental restorations; however, dental restorations are usually affected by zirconia fractures due to chipping and delamination of the veneer ceramic. One effective solution for repairing chemically inert zirconia frameworks is to strongly chemically bond them with the composite resin via surface modification. Thus, the bonding strength between the zirconia and composite resin determines the performance of dental restoration. Herein, we investigate the shear bond strength between zirconia ceramic and two ceramic repair systems before and after thermal cycling based on different surface pretreatments, including air-abrasion and a novel silane coupling agent. When treated with combined sandblasting, novel silane and 10-methacryloyloxydecyl hydrogen phosphate act as a bonding agent for the zirconia surface, and the maximum shear bond strength achieves 27.5 MPa, as measured by a universal testing machine through the average of 16 separate measurements. The results show that the combined treatment resists the interface damage caused by expansion and contraction during thermal cycling. The long-term bond durability is due to the micro-mechanical bond force formed by resin and ceramic, and the chemical bonds of Zr-O-Si at the interface. Results indicate that selective pretreating the surface results in high bond strength between the zirconia and the composite resin, which is meaningful to optimize dental restoration.

Canine dentin has increased size and number of dentinal tubules compared to human dentin. With less intertubular surface area for bonding to composite material in dog teeth, bonding shear strength may be affected negatively. This study was designed to compare the shear bonding strength of canine and human dentin. It also compared bond strength of two different acid etch systems when used with the same composite resin. The shear bond strength of composite cylinders to dentin was measured in 30 extracted canine cuspid teeth and a similar number of human molar teeth. Shear bond strength was 40 % greater for human compared with canine dentin. This significantly different (P < 0.05) result validates the hypothesis that dentin bond strength is positively correlated with the area of intertubular dentin. Results also indicated that shear bond strength was greater in the self-etching bond system compared with the etch and rinse system, although this difference was not significant.

Abstract Background:In restorative dentistry we usually use Sandwich Technique for posterior restorations where GIC is placed below and a resin composite is placed over it. The bonding strength between these two materials are low. We are looking for the best adhesive system to put it in between. We think that the self-etching bond will give the best bonding strength between them whereas total etch will give lower bonding strength than self-etching system. Methods:ION-Z GIC was bonded to resin composite by using two different bonding agents. The thirty specimens used were prepared by using acrylic blocks with holes in each hole to retain the ION-Z GIC. The specimens were randomly divided into three groups:Group I: Control group.Group II: Total-etch adhesive was applied and cured over ION-Z GIC.Group III: Self-etch adhesive was applied and cured.The composite resin placed over the ION-Z GIC and cured. The shear bond strength was measured by shearing of the bonded specimens on Universal Testing Machine (Model 114) using speed of 0.1mm / minute. The reading was tabulated and subjected to statistical analysis using ANOVA and Tukey's test.Results:The test showed statistically significant difference between Group III and Group I and between Group III and Group II. Group III had the highest shear bonding strength.Conclusion:Self-etch adhesive agent produces have better shear bond strength to ION-Z than total-etch adhesive and to the group without any bonding agent.

ABSTRACT The present in vitro investigation evaluated the shear bond strength of endodontically treated teeth restored with composite resin in conjunction with a total etch adhesive excite and a selfetching primer, Prompt-L-Pop. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the bond strength of two generation bonding systems when used on endodontically treated teeth. Twenty-four freshly extracted noncarious intact human maxillary and mandibular teeth were selected for this study. They were divided into 2 groups of 12 teeth each. The occlusal surface of the teeth was ground to prepare flat dentin surface. In group I, 5th generation dentin bonding system excite was used and in group 2, Prompt-L-pop, a self-etching primer was used. Both the dentin bonding agents were placed on the flat dentinal surfaces according to the manufacturer's instructions. Cylinders of composite resin were built on the prepared surface using Teflon mold. The prepared specimen were then embedded on an acrylic jig of suitable dimension and transferred to Instron machine for shear bond strength analysis. AbstractThis paper explores the behavior of the interface of glass fiber and cementitious matrix under the effect of aging. Pull-out tests of multiple alkali resistant glass fiber strands embedded in portland cement paste matrix were conducted. Four different curing regimes of 3 and 14 days normal curing, in addition to 3 and 7 days accelerated aging were employed. A recently developed method of characterizing interfacial properties was used to identify and evaluate the important parameters at interface. The experimental data are presented on the parameter of shear stiffness of a fiber-matrix boundary layer, the shear bond strength, the frictional bond strength and the specific surface energy as a function of fiber embedded length. It was observed that aging had a larger effect on the stiffness of the interface, the shear bond strength and the specific surface energy than on the frictional bond.
