The thermal diagnostics of a steam power unit in the TUROW Power Station is based on the DIAGAR system and thermal and flow measurements, recorded on-line by the DCS system. Along with direct evaluation of the operating parameters of the thermal cycle, the diagnostic system evaluates degradation of the system components and prognoses economically justified repair actions.

A new identifier for furnace parameters on control coalfired boilers fuel ratio dominating coal burning speed and slagging factor influencing the heat resistance on heating surfaces was applied to a 1000MWe power station. The identifier is based on the Extended Kalman Filtering on a nonlinear boiler dynamics model including energy and mass conservation laws in continuous time with seeking parameters fluctuated as the Brownian motion. The identifier refers to not only measured gas and water temperature at boilers (observable) but also actual fuel flow of each burner (manipulation) for the guidance to plant operators to cope with parameter fluctuation. Due to numerical stability, the identifier uses both Pade (1,1) approximation for time discretizing and U-D factorization for calculating the covariance matrix.

Arus awal pada saat motor induksi dijalankan dapat mencapai 5 – 7 kali arus nominal. Arus yang besar akan menghasilkan panas yang besar pula, panas ini dapat merusak motor itu sendiri dan tujuan penelitian ini agar dapat mencari metode pengasutan yang tepat untuk mengurangi arus start yang besar pada motor. Pengasutan pada motor induksi 3 fasa mempunyai beberapa metode yaitu Direct On Line (DOL), star-delta, auto trafo dan soft starter. Untuk dapat mengetahui arus start motor dapat menggunakan metode simulasi dengan software ETAP Power Station. Dari hasil simulasi yang dilakukan menggunakan ETAP didapatkan hasil sebagai berikut, untuk metode pengasutan direct on line (DOL) diperoleh arus start sebesar 2807,9 A atau 5,25 kali arus nominal dan voltage dip pada bus sebesar 14,88%. Untuk metode star-delta diperoleh arus start 1039,2 A atau 2,12 kali arus nominal dan voltage dip pada bus sebesar 5,51%. Untuk metode auto trafo diperoleh arus start sebesar 790,2 A atau 1,61 kali arus nominal dan voltage dip sebesar 4,19%. Dan untuk metode soft starter diperoleh arus start sebesar 1708 A atau 3,5 kali arus nominal dan voltage dip sebesar 9,08%.

An on-line detection system, which detected for µg/L level of iron, combined the automatic concentrate device and o-phenanthroline spectrophotography. The improved method has four innovations: the automatic concentrate device, the airtight structure of storing ammonia, a temperature sensor controlled the action of the rotating and dumping, an electronic balance with magnetic stirring to control the coloration process. The detection limit for iron was 0.717μg/L, the sensitivity of the improved method was 0.020. The obtained results by using the improved method were in good agreement with those obtained from graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry.

Abstract Compressor washing is a widely applied method to reduce the fouling rate of compressor blades by on-line washing and restore lost power by off-line washing. One of the factors influencing the effectiveness of a wash procedure is the efficiency of the detergent used for washing. This especially in the presence of hydrophobic contamination such as oily and carbon type deposits that can be difficult to penetrate and loosen by water-based detergents. In this paper, a comparison of cleaning performance is made between monophase water-based compressor cleaners and a biphase water-based compressor cleaner. Most of the currently used water-based compressor cleaners are monophase solutions. Their main active ingredients are surfactants which lower surface tension and interfacial tension allowing detachment and emulsification of foulant from a compressor blade. Biphase compressor cleaners are also formulated with surfactants, however due to their sub-micron heterogeneous nature they not only provide detachment and emulsification but a much more effective capability to solubilize even hydrocarbon type contamination. Cleaning efficiencies of these cleaners were evaluated in the laboratory using various test methods including US MIL-PRF-85704C. All of these performed tests confirm the significantly higher effectiveness of the biphase compressor cleaner. To validate the results from the laboratory tests a direct comparison of a monophase cleaner and a biphase cleaner was performed at a power station in the UK. After about four years of frequent washing with the monophase cleaner on two engines, one GT was then washed three times consecutively offline within a time period of six months with the biphase cleaner. In the second GT, washing was continued with the monophase cleaner. The visual inspection during a major overhaul very clearly showed a significantly higher removal of contamination from the GT washed with the biphase compressor cleaner.
