The aim of this paper is to determine whether the younger population in Croatia is following the dominant world trends in the use of social networks as extremely widespread communication platforms. Namely, although the Facebook community currently consists of as many as two billion users and is still convincingly the most popular social network in the world, it has already been noted that members of the so-called generation Z (people born after 1995) across the world are increasingly abandoning or minorizing Facebook and turning to other social networks. To this end, the authors used the comparative method to investigate the use of several contemporary social networks and current trends in the world and Croatia, using the necessary theoretical framework. Also, during May of 2017, the authors conducted a research into online habits and attitudes on social networks – which has not yet been done in Croatia, in the authors' knowledge – by means of an online survey among secondary school students, members of generation Z, in several major and smaller Croatian cities: Zagreb, Osijek, Krk and Korčula. The results of the research confirmed the initial hypotheses of the authors: young people are increasingly leaving Facebook as a “virtual promenade”, largely because older generations began using it, including their parents; they are mostly turning to social networks that offer a prevalence of photographs over text, primarily Instagram and Snapchat. In addition, no significant differences were found between members of generation Z in larger urban areas on the continent and smaller urban areas on the Adriatic islands, when it comes to their preferences.

Environmental conservation behaviors are associated with one’s values toward the environment. This study therefore investigated the values related to conservation behavior from the perspective of a religion. In particular, this study aimed to identify how the Islamic values for environmental conservation were integrated in textbooks. Two textbooks comprising a science textbook and an Islamic education textbook for lower secondary school students (14 years old) in Malaysia were selected in this study. From the findings, it is concluded that both textbooks included the application and integration of Islamic values for environmental conservation based on the contents of the sub-chapters, activities, exercises, notes, and photos. Further, the integration of Islamic values for environmental conservation was mentioned most in the sub-chapter section of these two textbooks. However, findings showed that the science textbook contained numerous integrations of Islamic values for environmental conservation compared to the Islamic education textbook. Thus, the implications of the findings point to the need to establish collaboration between science and Islamic education committees in organizing activities based on science and Islam that are related to environmental education in the teaching and learning sessions.

The rapid development of information technology has affected various aspects of life including education at the school level. However, conventional teaching and learning methods are still used in secondary schools, especially for Islamic subjects. One of the ways to help students learn better in Islamic subjects is by implementing a web-based content platform in the context of Islamic education. This is a learning tool to support the teaching and learning process using various media such as educational video materials for secondary school students, because multimedia elements will make learning more interesting especially for Islamic subjects that require memorization, reading, and comprehension. Another desired goal is for teachers to be able to manage their Islamic lessons online. In developing web applications, appropriate development methodologies have been implemented using Waterfall Model as a guideline. The waterfall model has different development phases such as analysis, design, implementation, testing and finally documentation. The web-based Islamic Education Content Platform (IECP) was designed and developed using Visual Studio Code with PHP and MySQL databases. It was assessed by obtaining Expert Review (ER) through a set of questionnaires given to four experts and fifteen respondents through User Acceptance Test (UAT). The results of ER indicate that web-based IECP is suitable for use and currently need to be refined and improved. Meanwhile, the UAT results show that web-based IECP is generally accepted and believed to be beneficial, especially to secondary school students and teachers.
