Background:Geopolymeric binders are especially indicated when reusing a wide diversity of wastes. This is an important feature, especially in the European context, in which a circular economy and future zero waste are targeted. Still, the cost of these materials, due to the use of high purity activators, prevents their commercialization as they are simply not competitive enough. Objective:The reduction in the amount of activators could be a cost-efficient solution if the associated decrease in the mechanical properties turned not to be excessive. This means that it is important to investigate the manner in which these additives can be used on their composition in order to compensate that mechanical reduction. Results and Conclusion:This paper discloses results concerning the mixed design of fly ash based geopolymeric mixtures using metakaolin, Portland cement (OPC) and calcium hydroxide as additives. Their influence on the mechanical properties, microstructure and cost-efficiency was studied. The results showed that the use of Portland cement as an additive leads to lower compressive strength. Results also show that geopolymers with different additives have different optimum Na2SiO3/NaOH ratios.

In many regions, ammoniation of straw is hindered by the cost or non-availability of anhydrous or aqueous ammonia and by poor upgrading responses with urea. Ammonium salts constitute a safe, alternative source of ammonia. In vitro studies have shown that ammonia produced by heating ammonium ‘carbonate’ (mixture of the carbamate and bicarbonate) or bicarbonate to 90°C for 15 h with water produced improvements in the digestibility of straw which were similar to those achieved with aqueous ammonia. Under identical conditions ammonium sulphate gave a similar response only when reacted with a stoichiometric excess of quicklime (CaO) or slaked lime (Ca(OH)2 ) and water to produce ammonia. When the straw was treated at 20°C for 35 d, upgrading was achieved only when the volatile or non-volatile ammonium salts were mixed with an excess of CaO or Ca(OH)2 plus water.

ABSTRACT

TREATMENT WITH ENDODONTIC TOOTHPASTE UNA-Puno

There are different types of endodontic pastes, which are scarce in the market, either by dentists’ lack of knowledge of the pastes existence orbecause of unknown effects of treatment on the patient. This research aimed to cover the knowledge gap discussed here. Prior the informed consent of the 50 patients who came to the clinic. We applied endodontic paste formula «UNA Puno» prepared locally using eugenol and camphor paramonochlorophenol (liquid) and secondly the solid iodoform reaction, tetracycline, zinc oxide, calcium hydroxide (for deciduous teeth). In the treatment period and follow-up, radiographs were taken to ensure no adverse reactions to the treatment. In comparison with other endodontic pastes, the product presented acts asan anti bacterial and bacteriostatic agent that destroys microbial residues. The obtained results are crucial, having defined an aseptic space; proven more effective and economical compared to other pastes. This lowers the cost of endodontic treatment while giving greater access to low-income populations.

KEY WORDS: * endodontic paste * «UNA-Puno» * calcium hydroxide * iodoform * tetracycline * zinc oxide * eugenol

IBM PC compatible computers are widely used in microscopy for applications ranging from control to image acquisition and analysis. The choice of IBM-PC based systems over competing computer platforms can be based on technical merit alone or on a number of factors relating to economics, availability of peripherals, management dictum, or simple personal preference.IBM-PC got a strong “head start” by first dominating clerical, document processing and financial applications. The use of these computers spilled into the laboratory where the DOS based IBM-PC replaced mini-computers. Compared to minicomputer, the PC provided a more for cost-effective platform for applications in numerical analysis, engineering and design, instrument control, image acquisition and image processing. In addition, the sitewide use of a common PC platform could reduce the cost of training and support services relative to cases where many different computer platforms were used. This could be especially true for the microscopists who must use computers in both the laboratory and the office.
