The study was based on the importance of students’ mathematical understanding and communication ability. Students need some efforts in attaining mathematical understanding and communication ability. As a result, the researcher sensed that it should be designed A Progressive Mathematization Model in order to enhance the mathematical understanding and communication ability of the students especially the junior high school ones. Then, in conducting the study the main purpose was to analyze the enhancement of mathematical understanding and communication ability of the students. The study was a quantitative research. The population in this study was the seventh-grade students of SMPN 1 Pagedangan and the sample in this study consisted of two groups that had been selected by applying a purposive sampling. The researcher utilizing four test instruments of mathematical understanding and communication ability within the study. The data that had been gathered would be analysed by means of independent t-test. The findings of the study showed that the enhancement of mathematical understanding and communication ability of the students through a progressive mathematization model had been better than the enhancement of mathematical understanding and communication ability of the students using the conventional learning.

This research is an experimental study with only posttest control design that aims to develop students' mathematical self-regulated learning (SRL) abilities. The population subject is VII grade private junior high school students in one of the schools in Medan. The experimental class gets learning with an exploratory approach and the control class gets conventional learning. With a total number of students 68 students of class VII junior high school consisting of 34 students in the experimental class, and 34 students in the control class. The instruments used in this study were mathematics self-regulated learning (SRL) scale, observation sheets, and questionnaire results. The results of this study indicate that an exploratory approach can improve the ability of mathematical self-regulated learning (SRL) better than using conventional approaches.

This study aims to examine the achievement and improvement of the ability of understanding and mathematical reasoning and motivation through Think Talk Write (TTW) approach to junior high school students. The population in this study is all junior high school in West Bandung Regency and the sample is class VIII of SMPS Darun Nasya, The instrument used in the research is a question of understanding and mathematical reasoning and questionnaire of learning motivation attitude, then the data obtained is processed through a two-way ANOVA test and correlation and regression test, data processing using IBM Statistics SPSS 21. Results of research involving TTW as independent variables in the experimental class and direct learning in the control class showed: There was a difference in achievement and improvement of mathematical understanding between control and experiment class, There are differences in achievement and improvement of mathematical reasoning between control and experiment class, There is difference of student's learning motivation between control and experiment class.

This study aims to determine the improvement of connection skills and motivation to learn mathematics by using a contextual approach and association between the two. The subjects of this study are students of SMP class VIII as much as two classes with 80 students. Instruments used in data collection are pretest and posttest for mathematical connection capability while for motivation to learn mathematics with posttest. Data on connection ability and mathematical learning motivation were analyzed using Mann Whitney nonparametric test. The result of this research is (1) Improvement of mathematical connection ability of junior high school students with learning using contextual approach better than those using ordinary learning. (2) The motivation of learning of junior high school student using contextual approach is better than using ordinary learning. (3) There is a strong association between the ability of the connection and motivation to learn the mathematics of junior high school students who are learning using a contextual approach.

This study is a quasi experiment that aims to determine whether theachievement and improvement of students' mathematical communicationskills and confidence of students who get the Learning TransactionalReading Strategy is better than the ordinary study reviewed overall andKAM categories. Alternative approach applied is Learning TransactionalReading Strategy. The research method used is quasi experimental methodwith the population of junior high school students in Bandung. While thesample is taken from class VII as much as two classes are randomlyselected from 9 classes. Before doing the research the first test ofprerequisite or Early Mathematical Ability (KAM) is done. At thebeginning and end of the learning the two experimental and control classeswere given a test and attitude questionnaire. The data collection in thisresearch is in the form of test which contains 6 description questions formathematical communication ability and 30 attitude questionnaires ofstudent's self confidence .The score data of each capability was analyzed by descriptive andinferential statistic using the difference test of two averages. Based on theresults of the study, both the results of data analysis and hypothesis testing, the author concludes that the improvement of mathematical communicationskills of students who get the learning transactional reading strategy isbetter than the improvement of students' communication skills learningusing ordinary learning reviewed overall and KAM category is medium. While the self-confidence of students who get the learning transactionalreading strategy is better than the students' self-confidence who getordinary learning reviewed overall and categories of high, medium and lowKAM.

Abstract This study aims to describe the ability of mathematical understanding of junior high school students in the material system of two variable linear equations (SPLDV). This is based on the fact that there are still many students who do not understand the concept of SPLDV so students feel difficulties in solving mathematical problems. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The subjects in this study were junior high school students. The data collection technique uses a test technique in the from of a description question which amounts to 4 questions and each questions represent each indicator of mathematical understanding. The result showed that (1) the ability of mathematical understanding on the indicator restated a concept, as a whole students could answer correctly so that they reached a good level of understanding (2) the ability of mathematical understanding of indicators applying concepts or algorithms to problem solving, students could form models mathematics, then do calculations, but there are errors where students have not been able to interpret the problem given correctly. Keywords: ability of mathematical understanding, junior high school students, SPLDV

This article is derived from the research result entitled “The Application of Problem Solving Approach in Improving Junior High School Students’ Mathematical Communication and Disposition Skill”. The research is purposed to see and analyze if there are some improvements in mathematical communication and disposition skill achievement of the students who have been treated using problem solving approach compared to the students who are still treated using conventional approach. The population of the research is all students at a junior high school in Subang regency. Out of these students,  40 students of class VIII D were chosen randomly as the experiment class, and 41 students of class VIII C have also been randomly chosen as the control class. The data in this research have then been analyzed using parametric and non-parametric statistic. The result of this analysis has shown that the achievement of experiment class students’ mathematical communication and disposition skill is better than the achievement of the control class students. The experiment class students’ mathematical disposition is also better than those of the control class. Lastly, the result also shows that there is some kind of correlation between the mathematical communication and mathematical disposition on the level of medium.
