In order to assess accurately safety performance of prestressed concrete poles servicing 30 years, bending loading tests are carried out on 3 samples extracted randomly, these ones are studied on the mechanical behavior and failure mechanism, failure modes are revealed, and important experimental data including cracking load, the ultimate load of normal use, the ultimate load of carrying capacity is obtained. Furthermore, based on measured test data, the curves of load-crack width and moment-deflection are made among the whole force process. The results show that failure modes of specimens are similar to one of “rare-reinforced beams”. Moreover, based on design method of serviceability limit state, the average security surplus coefficient is 1.2 before collapse damage.

The objective of this thesis is to develop a precast and prestressed concrete design for a factory hall, which was initially planned as a steel structure. Furthermore, a structural analysis is conducted on several chosen structural elements according to the European Standards and the German Annexes respectively. The analysis is done both by manual calculation and software calculation for comparison and includes the ultimate limit state design, the serviceability limit state design and the design for the state of transportation and assembly of the precast members. Lastly, to illustrate the results of the analysis, an overview drawing with the new concrete design as well as formwork and reinforcement drawings for each of the analyzed structural members are developed.

This paper selects several representative penstocks codes of hydropower stations in China and foreign countries including USBR Standards (1970), ASCE Steel Penstocks (1993), Japanese Technical Standards for Gates and Penstocks (1993), the former USSR’s code My 34 747-76 and Π 780-83, and Chinese code DL/T 5141-2001; analyzes and compares their different design methods and corresponding safety levels. In addition, the probabilistic limit state design method adopted in DL/T 5141-2001 is described emphatically. What are described can be taken as reference by the engineering technicians who are engaged in the research, design and construction of steel penstocks for hydropower stations at home and abroad.
