Summary Aim: The aim of this study is to present the results of the evaluation of the Preparatory Swimming Intervention Programme for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (PAS). Methods: The study used a method of participating observation by which evaluators diagnosed swimming skills. The diagnostic tool was Štochl’s scale of swimming skills evaluation (Štochl et al. 2005). A nonparametric sign test was chosen for the analysis of the results. Results: The results of the sign test showed that all probands studied had an overall improvement in all skills between measurements 1 and 2, 3 and 4 and also 1 and 4. In a comparison of individual probands, swimming skills improved between the 1st and 2nd measurements in two of them. The third proband achieved the greatest improvement between the 3rd and 4th measurements, the fourth between the 1st and 4th measurements. The fifth proband did not achieve a statistically significant improvement in the acquisition of swimming skills. Conclusions: The results of this study show that for the area of preparatory swimming lessons for children with PAS, it is possible to use the Štochl scale (Štochl 2002) for diagnosing swimming skills, thus enabling quantitative data to monitor the level of acquired swimming skills in these individuals.

In this study, we examined the accuracy and dynamics of visually guided saccades in 20 adults with autism spectrum disorder, as compared to 20 typically developed adults using the Step/Overlap/Gap paradigms. Performances in participants with autistic spectrum disorder were characterized by preserved Gap/Overlap effect, but reduced gain and peak velocity, as well as a greater trial-to-trial variability in task performance, as compared to the control group. While visual orienting and attentional engagement were relatively preserved in individuals with autistic spectrum disorder, overall these findings provide evidence that abnormal oculomotor behavior in autistic spectrum disorder reflects an altered sensorimotor control due to cerebellar abnormalities, rather than a deficit in the volitional control of eye movements. This study contributes to a growing body of evidence implicating this structure in the physiopathology of autism.

The objective of the work that we are going to present below is to choose a type of disability, in our case the Autism Spectrum Disorder, on which we will work with the intention of developing an educational project in which the students are given a response, having take into account the individual characteristics of each of them, as well as the context in which they are found. We decided to choose this disability because the four members of the group have treaty, at some point in our life, with people who have Autism Spectrum Disorder, whether they are children or adults. Therefore, it seemed a good idea to work on a topic that we have had the opportunity toapproachpersonally one way or another. However, this does not mean that, by having had the opportunity to meet and interact with people with this syndrome, we have known how to act with and towards them. It is for this reason that we would like to be able to know their characteristics and the needs they need to be able to successfully achieve in our future what we do notwe knew how to doin the past, that is, to contribute to a good development of the student body and to cooperate to achieve their integration into society.

The article examines the study of personal and motivational qualities of specialists working with children with autism spectrum disorder. Analysis of various studies of practical assistance to children with ASD shows that the most effective work is carried out by a group of specialists from different industries. Therefore, the study of psychological features of the personal-motivational sphere as a system of interaction of specialists in the team working with children with autism spectrum disorder is currently an urgent topic of research.

Abstract Objective To analyze the scientific production regarding maternal folic acid (FA) supplementation and its relationship with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD). Data Sources We performed unrestricted electronic searches in the BIREME virtual bank, Virtual Health Library (VHL) and Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE/PubMed) databases. Selection of Studies For sample selection, articles that met the proposed objectives were included, published in English, Spanish and Portuguese, the use of Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS): autistic OR autism AND autism spectrum disorder AND folic acid, AND, with the use of the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH): autistic OR autism AND autistic spectrum disorder AND folic acid. Data Collection Data extraction was performed by the reviewers with a preestablished data collection formulary. Data Synthesis The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols (PRISMA-P) was used based on a checklist with 27 items and a 4-step flowchart. Results A total of 384 articles was found by the search strategies, of which 17 were eligible following the pre-established criteria. The main findings of the present review point to maternal FA supplementation in the pre-conception period and beginning of pregnancy as a protective effect in relation to ASD, which should be indicated in this period as prevention to the problem. Conclusion According to the research analyzed, more studies are necessary to know its effects on pregnancy, since the consumption of excessive FA may not be innocuous.

Purpose The aim of this research study was to examine common practices of speech-language pathologists (SLPs) who work with children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) with respect to whether or not SLPs consider processing differences in ASD or the effects of input during their instruction. Method Following a qualitative research method, how SLPs instruct and present augmentative and alternative communication systems to individuals with ASD, their rationale for method selection, and their perception of the efficacy of selected interventions were probed. Semistructured interviews were conducted as part of an in-depth case report with content analysis. Results Based on completed interviews, 4 primary themes were identified: (a) instructional method , (b) input provided , (c) decision-making process , and (d) perceived efficacy of treatment . Additionally, one secondary theme, training and education received , was identified . Conclusions Clinicians reported making decisions based on the needs of the child; however, they also reported making decisions based on the diagnostic category that characterized the child (i.e., ASD). The use of modeling when teaching augmentative and alternative communication to individuals with ASD emerged as a theme, but variations in the method of modeling were noted. SLPs did not report regularly considering processing differences in ASD, nor did they consider the effects of input during instruction.
