Osaka University Center for Twin Research is currently organizing a government-funded, multidisciplinary research project using a large registry of aged twins living in Japan. The purpose of the project is to collect various information as well as biological resources from registered twins, and to establish a biobank and databases for preserving and managing these data and resources. The Center is collecting data from twin pairs, both of whom have agreed to participate in a one-day comprehensive medical examination. The following data are being collected: physical data (e.g., height, body mass, blood pressure, theoretical visceral fat, pulse wave velocity, and bone density), data regarding epidemiology (e.g., medical history, lifestyle, quality of life, mood status, cognitive function, and nutrition), electrocardiogram, ultrasonography (carotid artery and thyroid), dentistry, plastic surgery, positron emission tomography, magnetoencephalogram, and magnetic resonance imaging of brain. These data are then aggregated and systematically stored in specific databases. In addition, peripheral blood is obtained from the participants, and then genomic DNA is purified and sera are stored. A wide variety of studies are ongoing, and more are in the planning stage.

Background:Obesity is associated with arterial stiffening and diminished quality of life. Bikram yoga may be a feasible alternative to traditional exercise among obese individuals. Accordingly, the purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of Bikram yoga, a heated style of hatha yoga, on arterial stiffness in normal and overweight/obese adults.Methods:Forty-three (23 normal body mass index or BMI; 20 overweight/obese) apparently healthy participants completed an 8-week Bikram yoga intervention. Body composition was estimated via dual energy x-ray absorptiometry, arterial stiffness was measured via brachialankle pulse wave velocity, and health-related quality of life was assessed via RAND 36-Item Short Form survey at baseline and at the end of the 8-week intervention. Results:After the intervention, brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity decreased (P < .05) in overweight/obese participants while no such changes were observed in normal BMI participants. In the quality of life measures, emotional well-being improved (P < .05) in both groups, and general health improved (P < .05) only in the normal weight BMI group. Conclusion:Bikram yoga ameliorates arterial stiffness in overweight/obese adults and can positively impact quality of life regardless of BMI.

Aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of meldonium the state of cardiovascular system and the quality of life of patients with arterial hypertension (AH) combined with pre-diabetes under the summer heat.Materials and methods. 45 hypertensive patients 51-76 years old with pre-diabetes. randomized to active management (M), which in addition to basic therapy received during the 3 summer months meldonium 1000 mg/day, and a control (C). Body mass index, office blood pressure, blood chemistry, HbA1c, pulse wave velocity (PWV), tissue glycation, visual analogue scale (VAS) were performed.Results. The trend to lower heart rate during the heat of the group M. In September, a trend increase in PWV (ΔPWV=1.7 m/s; p =0.056) in group C. Lipid and carbohydrate metabolism do not change. In both groups the trend to an increase in the level of sodium in the heat, in group M it remained until September. Increase sodium during heat greater in group M (Δ2.0 mmol/l vs 1,0 mmol/1); p =0.05. In group C, tendency to decrease VAS scores from 70 to 55 ( p =0.07) in group M trend to increase from 60 to 70 ( p =0.07), the differences between the groups were significant ( p =0.01). In group M trend continued in September.Conclusion. Meldonium can be used as an adaptogen in the period of summer heat in patients with hypertension in combination with pre-diabetes.

Quality of human pulse waveform graph determine the results of the disease analysis and affect disease diagnosis accuracy,Through the MATLAB software design of a digital filter is used to filter the pulse signals, Optimizing the pulse waveform graph. And the simulation test of digital filter, results showed that filter completed the pulse wave denoising.
