E-learning is a sector of Saudi Arabian education that is witnessing significant growth, particularly in higher education. This article aims to provide a historical overview of the development and evolution of e-learning in Saudi Arabia. With the Ministry of Higher Education at the core of education and e-learning, the article will explore recent e-learning-related developments in King Saud University, King Faisal University, King Abdulaziz University and the Saudi Electronic University. As part of this analysis, the article will explore the challenges that are being encountered and the strategies that each of these institutions is implementing to support and develop e-learning. It is equally important to evaluate the role played by international partners, particularly the UK and the US, in supporting e-learning financially, socially and technologically. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has obtained significant support from the US and UK, with both countries contributing to the establishment of an integrated model for e-learning curriculums and information management systems in Saudi Arabia. Finally, this analysis explores the growth potential of e-learning and the efforts being made to support Saudi Arabia’s growing university student population. The article includes an exploration of the methods of evaluating, securing and modifying the current systems.

In the beginning of Coronavirus(Covid-19) outbreak at the end of 2019, distance e-learning has prevailedafter the schools were closed. The present study aims to investigate distance e-learning among teachers and students through their access to distance e-learning, as well as factors that enhance e-learning in distance, such as electronic homework, virtual classrooms, chats, online content, and educational activities. The study's sample consisted of 14897 students and 1,545 teachers at 89 schools in Al Qunfudah city in Saudi Arabia, of which 53 were schools for girls, and 36 were schools for boys. A quantitative methodology was employed in deductive approach, and secondary data were analysed using R software to calculate t-test to found means, p-value, degree of freedom and also present the data in charts. The results show that male teachers and students have greater access to distance e-learning than female teachers and students but the study also found that there was no statistical significance between male and female students in the use of electronic homework and virtual classrooms. However, there is a statistical significance in that girls use more educational activities than boys.

The development of new E-learning technologies and the arrival of mobile learning systems have brought greater impact on the education sector especially towards higher education learning system. There is no doubt that it is extremely useful for all those individuals lacking sufficient time for their studies. They can use such electronic forms of learning to enjoy the anytime & anywhere learning environment. It has attracted the attention of big software industry owners as well as mobile technology based companies over the period. M-learning is able to provide the learners with learning opportunities with greater capabilities through the use of mobile phones or smart-phones. Northern Border University (NBU) in Saudi Arabia is already using several online and offline automated software’s & Blackboard LMSs in its various Deanships, Colleges and Departments for student’s self-learning purposes. This case study aims to assess the behavioral differences of students/faculty members using E-learning (Mobile Apps/ Web applications) to learn/teach the respective subjects. It discusses about the perceptions of students/faculty members about M-learning & E-learning including the modes and their maximum uses of certain mobile App/Web Application whether offline or online. There are five criteria and for each criterion questionnaires are designed to take the opinions from different groups. Likert scale method is used here. Statistical testing method T-Test is used here to calculate the results among the groups.

This paper explores the academic staff perceptions on the factors affecting the acceptance and continuance usage of e-learning recommender system in Saudi Arabia on the basis of a qualitative data that were collected using the case study methodology. In this research, the case study design was selected for the qualitative methodology and semi-structured interviews were employed as the data collection method for the case study. The case study is based in a university implementing an e-learning recommender system in Saudi Arabia. We conducted interviews with five management staff and thus qualitative data were collected. Data analysis was performed and NVIVO 10th version software was also utilised. Data were coded and themes were then generated. Findings indicate several factors that affect an e-learning recommender system adoption that include user experience, service quality, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Various suggestions were offered in this study and we also propose practical implications according to the identified insufficiencies.
