The Chitwan Valley is one of the largest Dun Valleys in the Himalayan foothills of Nepal. Dun gravels perhaps deposited in the late Pleistocene to very early Holocene about 22,000-7000 yr. B.P. Chitwan Dun Valley is underlain by Dun fan gravels or Dun gravels which form unconfined to semiconfined or leaky confined aquifers. The study area, situated in the NW part of the valley occupies an area of 70.8 km2.The hydrogeological situation in the study area is inferred from drilling data of Ground Water Resources Development Board (GWRDB), Agriculture Development Project Janakpur (ADPJ) and several private drilling companies .The Chitwan Dun Valley constitutes a closed groundwater system in the Siwalik Zone of Nepal Himalaya. The study area reveals the existence of two definite groundwater sub-basin each having its own hydraulic system and is a part of single large regional groundwater basin. Annual potential evapotranspiration (PET) calculated at Rampur (station no 0902) for five-year period (1990-1995) is 1.68 mm/day. Annual precipitation data recorded at Rampur is 2214 mm. Area of recharge is 70.8 km2 and estimation of total groundwater storage(reserve) is 87.31 MCM per year, and dynamic reserve or annual potential recharge is estimated as 48.60 MCM per year.   doi: 10.3126/bdg.v12i0.2249 Bulletin of the Department of Geology, Vol. 12, 2009, pp. 43-54

The Egyptian government initiated a development project in 2015 to reclaim 1.5 million acres with the primary goal of increasing agricultural production. Siwa is one of these areas in the Western Desert of Egypt, with 30,000 acres using groundwater from the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System (NSAS). This study investigates if government goals are achievable in the next 20 years to secure the food and water needs of the Siwa region. Results show that total required crop areas are 7154 and 6629 acres in winter and summer, respectively. These areas are less than 17,010 acres of available area for cultivation (Av). The estimated total water use is 40.6 million cubic meters (MCM), which is less than the 88 MCM that is considered available groundwater in the Nubian Aquifer System (NAS). Due to available capacity in Siwa, an optimization model is used to maximize crop production considering government policies. The Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) model was applied to predict production costs and sell prices of cultivated crops. Analysis included different scenarios beyond government-recommended approaches to identify ways to further expand agriculture production under sustainable conditions. Results provide valuable insights to the ability to achieve government goals from the project and changes that may be required to enhance production.

The aim of Community Agriculture Development Project in Semi-Arid Lands (CADSAL) in Kerio valley was to increase agricultural production in the project area and it used Community Participatory Extension (CPE) approach. A survey methodology was utilized in the study with target population of 480 small-scale farmers who interacted with the project in Kerio valley locations. The objective of the study was to determine and compare the level of performance between the CADSAL participants and non-CADSAL participants in knowledge acquired in NERICA technologies in Kerio Valley of Elgeyo Marakwet County, Kenya. A sample of 160 comprising 80 CADSAL-Participants and 80 Non-CADSAL participants was chosen using simple random sampling.  A structured questionnaire was administered through personal interviews to the respondents at their homes. Descriptive statistics was used to compute percentages, means and standard deviations. Inferential statistics was used which included multiple linear regression and t-test to test the hypothesis at α = 0.05. Data was analyzed using Statistical Package for SocialSciences (SPSS) Version 24.0. The result indicated positive acquisition of NERICA technologies by the community using community participatory extension approach. The t-test p-value of less than 0.05 was achieved upon analysis of data which led to rejection of all the null hypothesis. This means further that community extension approach was key in enhancing the level of acquisition of technology by the farmers and hence extension agents need to utilize participatory approach. The study outcome therefore encourages Community participation in the projects meant to increase knowledge of food production in order to increase food production, accessibility and income both in productivity and diversity of production hence sustainability.

Speech-language pathologists providing services to handicapped children have pointed out that special education in-service programs in their public school environments frequently do not satisfy the need for updating specific diagnostic and therapy skills. It is the purpose of this article to alert speech-language pathologists to PL 94-142 regulations providing for personnel development, and to inform them of ways to seek state funding for projects to meet their specialized in-service needs. Although a brief project summary is included, primarily the article outlines a procedure whereby the project manager (a speech-language pathologist) and the project director (an administrator in charge of special programs in a Utah school district) collaborated successfully to propose a staff development project which was funded.
