Major Consideration

Major consideration affecting all aspects of tourism planning including fundamental decisions on attitude and policy is dependent on the extent to which either development or community support is to be given precedence. This paper attempts to assess the factors that can enhance or hinder community support for tourism development, a kind of symbiotic relationship in the harnessing tourism potentials. After all, tourism exerts both detrimental and beneficial influences on local community. It degrades irreversibly the very attractions which justifies and attract it, and on the other hand it enhances the socio-economic interest of the local people and authorities are challenged to appreciate the value of community support in tourism development. 316 semi structured interview were conducted on six different ethnic communities with varying ethno cultural tourism potentials. The result reveal that most resident communities are ready to support ethno-cultural tourism development in their community if they are going to benefit (economically), through job creation, infrastructural development and cultural revitalization. The paper recommends that planning and development of tourism should be geared towards ethno-cultural tourism as strongly advocated by local community to gain their support for a sustainable tourism development initiative

AbstractThe municipality of Bahía Solano possesses important tourist attractions. The majority of them consist of natural wonders such as whale, dolphin and bird watching. Its marine area offers diving courses, all types of fishing, surfing, other water sports etc. The enormous amount of natural wealth stands in contrast to the lack of local development and the high rate of poverty among its inhabitants. Bahía Solano has enviable tourist professions but a low level of competition. This research proposes a methodology of social innovation, elaborated by researchers, that involves nature, communities and tour operators, where a connection of surveys with the expectations and perceptions of the different entities (inhabitants, tourists, and tour operators) has been obtained.

Cultural and educational activities of Ukrainian district school council of Pokuttiain the periodof the West Ukrainian People’s Republic is described in the article; the peculiarities of the legislative ensuring of the process of the national school development are studied; the relations of the Ukrainians with other ethnic communities in the national and cultural sphere are highlighted. In the research the author came to the conclusion confirming that residents of Pokuttia actively took part in the reformation of the national and cultural sphere following the norms of the official legislation of The West Ukrainian People’s Republic; the work of the district school councils was various – from the organization the teachers’ meetings, conferences to the convocations of preparatory courses for pupils, management of the teaching process in district schools; in spite of the declaring international peace, concord and partnership by the authority of The West Ukrainian People’s Republic there were cultural and educational processes in the form of the Ukrainian-Polish confrontation and intentions of the Ukrainian-Jewish dialogue in Pokuttia. Based on the experiences of a Koreatown scholar, the executive director of a Koreatown nonprofit, and a longtime resident student, the article advocates for greater attention to the complex and dynamic power structures of ethnic enclaves in community-academic partnerships. We discuss the changing landscapes of Koreatown as the global nexus of the Pacific Rim economy, the city of Los Angeles’s urban redevelopment plans, and growing diversity and inequality. Programs that aim to engage effectively with ethnic communities must reassess how knowledge is produced and conveyed, how we structure partnerships within stratified communities, and how to grow from issue-based partnerships to broader communities of interest.
