The Quick Test, Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test, and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale were administered to 40 psychiatric inpatients. High correlations and minimal mean differences obtain among measures.

29 men (15 white, 14 black) who were inmates at a maximum security penitentiary were given the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale—Revised and the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test—Revised on which the full scale IQs correlated .80. This suggests the Peabody would serve as an effective screening test for this population.

The WAIS, the original edition of the Ohio Literacy Test, and its auditory form were administered to 60 male psychiatric inpatients at the time of hospital admission. Correlations were .54 to .70. Tentative results suggest that this auditory form may have some merit as a quick estimator of WAIS Full Scale IQs.

40 patients at a psychiatric hospital were tested with the following tests of intelligence: Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS), Raven's Progressive Matrices (PM) and Forms A and B of the Full-Range Picture Vocabulary Test (FRPV). Regression analysis using the WAIS as the criterion and the other two tests as predictors indicated that either Form A or Form B of the FRPV predicted WAIS IQ but the PM did not.

The relationship between IQ scores on the Full-Range Picture Vocabulary Test (FRPV) of Amnions and Amnions and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) was investigated using a random sample of clients at a hospital-based vocational rehabilitation center. As predicted, correlations of FRPV and WAIS were significant, but decreased in magnitude for WAIS Vocabulary subtest, Verbal IQ, Full-scale IQ, and Performance IQ scores. These data extend previous research in applying the FRPV to different populations and suggest that it can be usefully applied as a quick screening measure of intelligence with a heterogeneous rehabilitation clientele.

Diese Studie untersucht die Zusammenhänge von Intelligenz- und Gedächtnisleistungen in der Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-IV und der Wechsler Memory Scale-IV unter Berücksichtigung des Geschlechts (N = 137 Gesunde, 63 w/74 m). Ein Vorteil der weiblichen Testpersonen im verbalen episodischen Gedächtnis sowie in einzelnen Aufgaben zur Verarbeitungsgeschwindigkeit konnte beobachtet werden. Die männlichen Testpersonen schnitten in den Untertests Allgemeines Wissen und Visuelle Puzzles besser ab. Wie gut Gedächtnisleistungen Intelligenzleistungen erklären beziehungsweise vorhersagen, ist aufgrund unserer Ergebnisse nicht nur abhängig von den Aufgaben, sondern auch vom Geschlecht.

Im vorliegenden Beitrag wird der Datensatz (N = 1664), aus dem auch die Normstichprobe für die deutschsprachige Version der Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale – Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV) gezogen wurde, nach altersabhängigen Veränderungen kognitiver Fähigkeiten analysiert. Die niedrigsten Rohwertmittelwerte werden in der ältesten Altersgruppe erreicht, die Leistungsspitzen finden sich überwiegend im Altersbereich zwischen 20 und 29 Jahren. In den Untertests der Indizes Wahrnehmungsgebundenes Logisches Denken und Verarbeitungsgeschwindigkeit kommt es zu einer bedeutsamen Leistungsabnahme mit zunehmendem Alter: In der ältesten Altersgruppe werden nur noch zwischen 50 und 60 % der Rohwertmittelwerte der leistungsstärksten Altersgruppe erreicht. Gleichzeitig nimmt die Heterogenität in der Rohwertverteilung zu. Für die Indizes Sprachverständnis und Arbeitsgedächtnis fallen beide Effekte deutlich niedriger aus.
