Abstract Thaparocleidus caecus and Thaparocleidus siamensis are parasitic monogeneans found on the gills of striped catfish Pangasianodon hypophthalmus (Pangasiidae), a native species of Southeast Asia. We report T. caecus and T. siamensis, for the first time in India, from the gills of aquarium-kept P. hypophthalmus (prevalence 40 % and 80 % respectively). We also report T. siamensis from the gills of pond-cultured P. hypophthalmus (prevalence 100 %); no specimen of T. caecus was observed on pondcultured P. hypophthalmus (prevalence 0 %). Morphometric data of the studied parasites did not differ significantly from previous descriptions of the two species recovered in other geographic locations. Similarly, no consequential variation was found when 28S rDNA of T. siamensis from the present study was compared with that of T. siamensis from Malaysia available on GenBank. The present investigation adds to growing cases of freshwater monogeneans that have been concomitantly introduced worldwide as a result of aquarium and aquaculture trade.

This study was conducted to determine the morphology, prevalence and mean intensity of monogeneans on gill filaments of striped catfish Pangasianodon hypophthalmus (Pangasiidae). P. hypophthalmus are important economic fish in Southeast Asia region and predominantly produced in Asian countries such as Malaysia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, China and Cambodia through aquaculture. Thirty fish were sampled from an earthen pond located in Kuala Besut, Terengganu, in the period from January to February, 2018. The monogenean parasites were removed from the gill filaments and counted. For the morphological study, the extracted monogeneans were mounted on a slide by using drop of ammonium picrate-glycerin (APG) and then were observed under the Compound Advanced Research Microscope. The drawing was done with the aid of lucida camera attached to compound microscope. The monogenean parasite was identified as Thaparocleidus sp based on the characteristics of the morphology and morphometrics of the parasite, which did not differ significantly from the previous descriptions of the same species discovered in other geographic locations. The prevalence and mean intensity levels were 100% and 106.07 parasites per fish, respectively. The monogenean parasites discovered throughout this examination were recorded and the data obtained was summarized.

Abstract A revision of the rhinocerotid material from the Negev (Israel), dating back to the early Miocene (MN3 in the European Mammal Biochronology), highlights the presence of Brachypotherium and a taxon close to Gaindatherium in the Levantine corridor. A juvenile mandible, investigated using CT scanning, displays morphologically distinct characters consistent with Brachypotherium cf. B. snowi rather than with other Eurasian representatives of this genus. Some postcranial remains from the Negev, such as a humerus, display features that distinguish it among Miocene taxa. We attribute these postcrania to cf. Gaindatherium sp., a taxon never recorded outside the Siwaliks until now. This taxon dispersed into the Levantine region during the late early Miocene, following a pattern similar to other South Asian taxa. Brachypotherium cf. B. snowi probably occurred in the Levantine region and then in North Africa during the early Miocene because its remains are known from slightly younger localities such as Moghara (Egypt) and Jebel Zelten (Libya). The occurrence cf. Gaindatherium sp. represents a previously unrecorded range expansion out of Southeast Asia. These new records demonstrate the paleogeographic importance of the Levantine region showcasing the complex role of the Levantine corridor in intercontinental dispersals between Asia and Europe as well as Eurasia and Africa.

The powder post beetles (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae) (except Lyctinae) of Yunnan Province in Southwest China are reviewed for the first time. Keys to twenty-six genera and fifty-two species from the Yunnan region are provided. One new genus and seven new species are described: Dinoderus (Dinoderastes) hongheensis sp. nov., Dinoderus (Dinoderastes) nanxiheensis sp. nov., Gracilenta yingjiangensis gen. nov., sp. nov., Calonistes vittatus sp. nov., Calophagus colombiana sp. nov., Xylodrypta guochuanii sp. nov. and Xylodrypta zhenghei sp. nov.. Fourteen species are recorded in China for the first time. The bostrichid fauna of Yunnan is compared with those of the neighbouring bio-geographically related Southeast Asian and Himalayan regions. The fauna has a close affinity with that of tropical Southeast Asia and a much weaker relationship with the Palearctic region. The differences with the Himalayas may reflect the separate evolutionary and complex geological history of the two areas.

Five new pholcid species belonging to Holocneminus Berland, 1942, Khorata Huber, 2005 and Pholcus Walckenaer, 1805 are newly described from Southeast Asia: Holocneminus samanggi Lan & Li sp. nov. (Indonesia, male and female), Khorata kep Lan, Jäger & Li sp. nov. (Cambodia, male), Khorata musee Lan & Li sp. nov. (Thailand, male and female), Pholcus bat Lan & Li sp. nov. (China, male and female), and Pholcus phnombak Lan, Jäger & Li sp. nov. (Cambodia, male and female). Species from the genera Khorata and Pholcus are reported from Cambodia for the first time.

AbstractABSTRACT The spear lobster, Linuparus somniosus Berry & George, 1972 (Palinuridae), is here reported for the first time from relatively shallow waters off southern Java, Indonesia. This is only the second time that the species is recorded from Southeast Asia. Sexual dimorphism in the pereiopods is reported: those of males being more robust than those of females. Several other taxonomic characters are also discussed. Notes on the local fisheries for this species are provided. Linuparus somniosus Berry & George, 1972 (Palinuridae) est signale pour la premiere fois d'eaux relativement peu profondes au sud de Java (Indonesie); c'est la seconde fois seulement que l'espece est signalee du Sud-est de l'Asie. Le dimorphisme sexuel des pereiopodes est mentionne, ceux du male etant plus robustes que ceux de la femelle. D'autres caracteres taxonomiques sont aussi discutes. Des notes sur les pecheries locales de cette espece sont fournies.
