Technical solutions for water damming structures in forest streams Small dams are basic elements of water retention systems in agricultural landscape and in forest ecosystems. Despite small water raising and location across small streams, these constructions should conform to security regulations and be resistant to destructive effect of flowing water. Moreover, they shouldn't be a strange element to the natural landscape of the river valley or forest ecosystem. Attention is also focussed in this paper on providing unobstructed flow in natural and artificial streams and on the possibility of migration for aquatic organisms. Examples of dams that do not hamper fish migration are given.

Abstract In the last two hundred years, the Mureş River Floodplain has suffered major changes caused by dike constructions, meander cutting, and by the transformation of the natural landscape into an agricultural one. In this environmental context, we wanted to find out the degree to which large branchiopod species still survive in the Mureş Floodplain area. Every stagnant aquatic habitat encountered in 2019 in the Mureş Floodplain Natural Park was sampled. For the habitats where more species co-occur, urgent preservation actions must be taken. Most of the species prefer open habitats and have survived in the wheel ruts on agricultural lands. In the absence of natural habitats, the importance of this habitat type becomes a major one. The forest advantages species related to shady habitats, such as Chirocephalus diaphanus. We have found several individuals in the park that showed black spots on their bodies, characteristic of the black disease of fairy shrimp. The presence of the disease only in the populations from wheel ruts suggests that vehicles which make these ruts, could be the carriers of the disease.

Natural conditions for the reconstruction of fish ponds and possibilities of their use in ecotourism The paper comprises an analysis of the environmental impact of restoring small water retention in the Świergotka River. Hampering water flow due to river damming by 0.5 m and reconstruction of ponds will have a favourable effect on the valley's nature but may result in excessive water eutrophication in case of using these reservoirs for fish-farming.

AbstractMacrophytes are a group of aquatic organisms affected by constant changes. One of the main factors influencing the rate and direction of these changes is the way of basin management. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of changes in the management of a lake catchment area in an agricultural landscape on the qualitative and quantitative structure of macrophytes and assessment of the ecological status of the lake in question. The study was conducted in the years 1996, 1999 and 2011 in Lake Głębokie Uścimowskie. This lake is small (20.8 ha surface) and shallow (about 6 m depth). In the 1990s in Lake Głębokie Uścimowskie from 14 to 15 plant communities occurred, which occupied 2.9 ha of the lake. This represented only 14.1% of the lake. In 2011 there was a slight growth in the number of phytocenoses (16), and significant increase in the area of phytolittoral - 5.98 ha. In the 1990s the range of ESMI index values, allowed the lake to be categorized as one with poor ecological status, but already in 2011 after a similar analysis, the lake was ranked in the upper limits of moderate ecological status of lakes. One of the main reasons for the rise in the ecological status of Lake Głębokie Uścimowskie, determined on the basis of the macrophyte index, as well as for the slight decline in trophy, was probably a sewerage system built in 2006 in Głębokie village.

The use of geo-tagged photographs seems to be a promising alternative to assess Cultural Ecosystem Services CESs in respect to the traditional investigation when focusing on the study of the aesthetic appreciation of a protected area or natural landscape. The aim of this study is integrating the cumulative viewshed calculated from geotagged photo metadata publicly shared on Flickr with raster data on infrastructure, historical sites, and the natural environment, using landscape ecology metrics and RandomForest modelling. Crowdsourced data provided empirical assessments of the covariates associated with visitor distribution, highlighting how changes in infrastructure, crops and environmental factors can affect visitor’s use. These data can help researchers, managers, and public planners to develop projects, and guidelines in the rural landscape for incresing the supply for CESs.
