The fault management process consists of several sub-tasks: fault location, fault isolation and service restoration. This work presents an assessment and evaluation of the practical aspects of the Medium Voltage (MV) Fault Locator at the Portuguese Distribution System primary substation. Eighty samples of incidents occurred at different MV network with different characteristics in Portugal were used to determine the time saving on the restoration process as well as the improvement on the quality of services indices. An economical assessment based of the use of the MV Distribution Network Fault Locator available in the Portuguese Primary Substation was done and discussed.

Research on reliability of distribution network has very important meaning and function to ensure the quality of power supply. This paper introduces some basic concepts of reliability in distribution network, including distribution network reliability definition, task and index. The classical reliability evaluation method was reviewed, and focused on specific distribution network, an example analysis was given, and specific reliability evaluation indexes were calculated. Finally, the future development of distribution network reliability evaluation was made a simple prospect.

Lyon, France has the opportunity to distribute in abundance a groundwater resource with a good quality for drinking water. However, the length and the complexity of the distribution network can lead to consumer complaints in some areas of the water distribution system. In order to improve the organoleptic quality of distributed water, the water supplier wants to get a better understanding of potential taste and odour formation and to succeed in controlling it. Since 2006, activities have been taken with targeted analyses and sensory evaluation of water, taking into account both the consumers' private networks and the citywide distribution network. The first results were focused on the occurrence of bromophenols along the water distribution system, the understanding of the mechanisms of formation of such compounds, as well as their incidence on taste-and-odour events at the consumer's home.

In the distribution network fault location, the impact of information distortion needs to be to focus on, especially when the short-circuit current is used as the fault information. Considering the distortion or failure of real-time information and other issues, the quick location method of the failure point in distribution network is analyzed. Based on the mathematical model of distribution network fault location, firefly algorithm is applied. According to the characteristics of fault location objective function in distribution network, convergence criterion is proposed, which is suitable for fault location mathematical model.

Along with the increase of need for high reliability of the power system security, it is important to build up a distribution fault analysis network and processing system, which can provide decision-making help for dispatching personnel. This paper introduced framework of the distribution network fault analysis and processing system, and analyze the fault location, isolation, generation and evaluation of power supply reconfiguration strategy. Tree model and Heuristic search were used for fault location and power supply route switching strategy.
