Electromagnetic forming is a non-conventional forming process and is classified as a high-speed forming process. It provides certain advantages as compared to conventional forming processes: improved formability, high repeatability and productivity, reduction in tooling cost and reduction of springback and of wrinkling. However, various process parameters affect the performance of the electromagnetic forming system. Finite element simulations are very useful to optimize a process because they can reduce time and costs. With the aim of investigating the effects of the process parameters on the deformed blank geometry, finite element simulations of an electromagnetic sheet bulging test have been performed in this work. Furthermore the role of first impulse of discharged current is also investigated.

The role of trabeculae carneae in modulating left ventricular (LV) diastolic compliance remains unclear. The objective of this study was to determine the contribution of trabeculae carneae to the LV diastolic compliance. LV pressure–volume compliance curves were measured in six human heart explants from patients with LV hypertrophy at baseline and following trabecular cutting. The effect of trabecular cutting was also analyzed with finite-element model (FEM) simulations. Our results demonstrated that LV compliance improved after trabecular cutting (p < 0.001). Finite-element simulations further demonstrated that stiffer trabeculae reduce LV compliance further, and that the presence of trabeculae reduced the wall stress in the apex. In conclusion, we demonstrate that integrity of the LV and trabeculae is important to maintain LV stiffness and loss in trabeculae leads to more LV compliance.

It is very complex for civil engineers to study various structures by using analytical method,so they prefer finite element methods over the analytical methods. As it is an approximate solution, therefore several limitationsare associated in the applicationsin civil engineering due to misinterpretationof analyst. Hence, the main aim of the paper is to study the finite element method in details along with the benefits and limitations of using this method in analysis of building components like beams, frames, trusses, slabs etc.

The work investigates the importance of the K-T approach in the modelling of pressure cracked structures. T-stress is the constant in the second term of the Williams expression; it is often negligible, but recent literature has shown that there are cases where T-stress plays the role of opening the crack, also T-stress improves elastic modeling at the point of crack. In this research study, the most important effects of the T-stress are collected and analyzed. A numerical analysis was carried out by the extended finite element method (X-FEM) to analyze T-stress in an arc with external notch under internal pressure. The different stress method (SDM) is employed to calculate T-stress. Moreover, the influence of the geometry of the notch on the biaxiality is also examined. The biaxiality gave us a view on the initiation of the crack. The results are extended with a comparison to previous literature to validate the promising investigations.
