The reaction of 2-pyridinecarbaldehyde with N-(2-aminoethyl)propane-1,3-diamine in a 2 : 1 molar ratio under microwave irradiation gave 2-(2-(pyridin-2-yl)-tetrahydropyrimidin-1(2H)-yl)-N- (pyridin-2-ylmethylene)ethanamine (L) as a mixture with the isomer 3-(2-(pyridin-2-yl)imidazolidin- 1-yl)-N-(pyridin-2-ylmethylene)propan-1-amine (L*). The molecules were characterized by elemental analyses and spectroscopic methods. Percentages of L and L* were evaluated through integration of selected 1H NMR signals. The cadmium iodide complex of L, [Cd(L)I2]·H2O (1), was prepared and identified by elemental analysis, FT-IR, Raman, and 1H NMR spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In the crystal structure of 1 the cadmium atom with four coordinated nitrogen atoms and two iodide ions has a distorted octahedral geometry. A water molecule is also incorporated in the crystal network. Several hydrogen bonds including N-H···O, C-H···O, C-H···I, and O-H···I interactions are present in the crystal structure of 1.

AbstractTwo novel mixed-ligand coordination polymers, {[Co(tdc)(btrp)]·0.67DMF}n (1) and {[Zn2(bimb)2(tdc)2]·2H2O}n (2) involving 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylate (H2tdc), and bitopic flexible N-donor ligands, 1,3-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)propane (btrp) and 1,4-bis((1H-benzo[d]imidazol-1-yl)methyl)benzene (bimb), have been synthesized by the hydrothermal method and characterized via IR, elemental analysis, thermal analysis, and powder X-ray diffraction. The biological functional studies were performed; the treatment activity of the compounds on periodontitis and the specific mechanism was explored. First, the real-time RT-PCR was carried out to determine the inflammatory genes nf-κb and p53 relative expression in periodontal mucosal cells after treating with compounds 1 and 2. Then, the level of the inflammatory cytokine in the gingival crevicular fluid after treating with compounds was also determined by the ELISA detection kit.

The interaction between the uranyl cation, (UO2)2+, and organic species is of interest due to the potential applications of the resulting compounds with regard to nuclear waste disposal and nuclear fuel reprocessing. The hydrothermal reaction of various uranyl compounds with flexible zwitterionic 1,1′-[1,4-phenylenebis(methylene)]bis(pyridin-1-ium-4-carboxylate) dihydrochloride (Bpmb·2HCl) in deionized water containing drops of H2SO4resulted in the formation of a novel two-dimensional uranyl coordination polymer, namely poly[tetraoxido{μ2-1,1′-[1,4-phenylenebis(methylene)]bis(pyridin-1-ium-4-carboxylate)}di-μ3-sulfato-diuranium(VI)], [(UO2)2(SO4)2(C20H16N2O4)]n, (1). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction reveals that this coordination polymer exhibits a layered arrangement and the (UO2)2+centre is coordinated by five equatorial O atoms. The structure was further characterized by FT–IR spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The polymer shows high thermal stability up to 696 K. Furthermore, the photoluminescence properties of (1) has also been studied, showing it to exhibit a typical uranyl fluorescence.

AbstractA mixed ligand zinc coordination polymer, {Zn(μ-DPE)(DBM)2}n (1) (HDBM: dibenzoylmethane and DPE: (E)-1,2-di(pyridin-4-yl)ethene), was prepared and identified by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In the 1D linear coordination polymer of 1, the zinc atom has a ZnN2O4 environment with octahedral geometry. These complex units are linked by the bridging of the planar N2 donor DPE ligands. In the coordination network of complex 1, in addition to the hydrogen bonds, the network is more stabilized by π–π stacking interactions between pyridine and β-diketone moieties of the ligands. These interactions increase the ability of the compound to interact with biomacromolecules (BRAF kinase, CatB, DNA gyrase, HDAC7, rHA, RNR, TrxR, TS and Top II) as investigated by docking calculations.

The synthesis, characterization, structural and computational studies of Re(I) tricarbonyl bromo complexes bearing alkyl-substituted 1,4-diazabutadiene ligands, [Re(CO)3(1,4-DAB)Br], where 1,4-DAB = N,N-bis(2,4-dimethylbenzene)-1,4-diazabutadiene, 2,4-Me2DAB (1); N,N-bis(2,4-dimethylbenzene)-2,3-dimethyl-1,4-diazabutadiene, 2,4-Me2DABMe (2); N,N-bis(2,4,6-trimethylbenzene)-1,4-diazabutadiene, 2,4,6-Me3DAB (3); and N,N-bis(2,6-diisopropylbenzene)-1,4-diazabutadiene, 2,6-ipr2DAB (4) are reported. The complexes were characterized by different spectroscopic methods such as FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and elemental analyses and their solid-state structures were confirmed by X-ray diffraction. In each complex, the Re(I) centre shows a distorted octahedral shape with a facial geometry of carbonyl groups. The gas phase geometry of the complexes was identified by density functional theory. Interesting intermolecular n…π* interactions of complexes 1 and 3 were investigated by non-covalent interaction index (NCI), and natural bond orbital (NBO) analyses. The intramolecular n…σ*, σ…π*, π…σ* interactions were also studied in complexes 3 and 4.

The single pyrazine-bridged polymeric complex {[Ni(pyz)(H2O)4](NO3)2.2H2O}n has been synthesised and characterised by elemental analyses, IR and UV-vis spectra, and a single-crystal X-ray diffraction study. The coordination around the Ni centre is perfectly octahedral. The Ni(H2O)4 coordination planes are bridged by pyrazine ligands forming an infinite chain structure. Two nitrate anions and two water molecules exist in the lattice and are linked by intermolecular hydrogen bonds to the coordinated water molecules.
