The purpose of the current study was to examine the moderating role of emotional intelligence on the relationship between transformational leadership and organisational commitment. Previous research has shown that transformational leadership is related to organizational commitment. However, little attention has been paid to the possible moderators of this relationship. Therefore, this study aimed to bridge the gap in current literature by investigating how the relationship between transformational leadership and organizational commitment might change as a function of a personal resource (emotional intelligence). It was hypothesized that the positive relationship between transformational leadership and organizational commitment would be stronger for employees with high emotional intelligence than for those with low emotional intelligence. A total of 250 pupil teachers from various different basic schools in the Ho Municipality participated in the survey. The data was analyzed using SPSS version 23. Consistent with the literature, transformational leadership had strong positive relationships with organizational commitment. However, emotional intelligence did not moderate the relationship. It is suggested that basic school heads and teachers should be trained to adopt the transformational leadership style. It was also recommended that leaders in these basic schools should educate and train their employees on the importance of organizational commitment and the role emotional intelligence plays in achieving organizational goals.

PurposeThe aim of this study is to evaluate to what extent the project team size influence the relation between transformational leadership and success of international development projects (IDPs). The paper draws on leader-member-exchange (LMX) theory and contextualizes transformational leadership style to temporary project environment particularly that of an official development assistance project in an African context.Design/methodology/approachThe research is based on the processing of a primary database collected by questionnaire from 111 coordinators of IDPs in Benin. The structural equation method based on the PLS approach was used to test our hypotheses.FindingsFirst, the preliminary results reveal that, in the context of IDP, projects managers are much more sensitive to the “management” and “visibility” dimensions than to the “impact” dimension of project success. Then, following the hypothesis test, the results show that transformational leadership has a direct positive influence on the success of IDP. Project team size does not play a moderating role in the relationship between transformational leadership and project success. Also, considering the effect of the specific dimensions of transformational leadership on IDP success, only the “idealized influence” dimension influences directly and positively on the latter.Originality/valueResearch calls for examining the role of team size vis-à-vis transformational leadership style and project success and calls in general for studying project manager's leadership styles. This study contributes to literature by answering such calls. In addition, the originality of this study lies in the evaluation of the influence of the specific dimensions because the exclusive use of leadership forms provides an imperfect and oversimplified picture of reality.

The second relation discuss in this paper between transactional leadership and employee performance. Researcher dependent on previous studies to conduct this research. Leaders should not follow the transformational leadership style because the results of previous studies are refer to a weak positive role on employee performance , and need more studies on transformational leadership to prove the role of it in different cultures and organisations. For further research in this scope, researcher recommended to conduct research in different cultures or organisations to determine leadership style has strong positive role on employee performance beside transactional leadership.

Hospital managers and chief physicians, but also doctors and nurses, in an effort to face  constant changes, are involved in innovation. This study examines if transformational leadership style is related to adoption of employees’ suggestions, and if personal initiative and job control moderate this relationship. Nurses, doctors, and auxiliary and technical collaborators (n = 137), of an Italian public hospital, participated in this study. Results show that transformational leadership was correlated to innovation adoption but, when examined moderators were included in the analysis, the relation was no more significant. Personal initiative and job control did not moderate the relationship between transformational leadership and innovation adoption but they do have a significant direct effect on innovation adoption. Findings suggest that innovation in hospitals is more related to personal variables, like personal initiative and job control, rather than to transformational leadership.
