Different methods have been proposed for ranking fuzzy numbers. These include methods based on distances, centroid point, coefficient of variation, and weighted mean value. However, there is still no method that can always give a satisfactory result to every situation; some are counterintuitive and not discriminating. This paper presents an approach for ranking fuzzy numbers with integral value that is an extension of the index of Liou and Wang. This method, that is independent of the type of membership function used, can rank more than two fuzzy numbers simultaneously. This ranking method use an index of optimism to reflect the decision maker's optimistic attitude, but rather it also contains an index of modality that represents the neutrality of the decision maker. The approach is illustrated with numerical examples.

This paper presents a new method for evaluating the efficiency of school preceptors based on fuzzy number arithmetic operations. It uses fuzzy numbers to represent fuzzy grades. The fuzzy weights of criteria are automatically generated from the opinions of evaluators. The simplified fuzzy number arithmetic operations are used for calculating the average of fuzzy numbers. It can evaluate the efficiency of school preceptors in a more flexible and more intelligent manner.

In this paper, a novel approach to ranking fuzzy numbers based on the mean and the fuzzy degree of fuzzy number is proposed. In the approach, a new ranking index that is comprehensive consideration of the mean and the fuzzy degree of fuzzy number is constructed, and then the properties of the ranking index are given. Moreover, to compare the proposed approach with the existing approaches, numerical examples are given. The comparative results illustrate that the approach proposed in this paper is better and has simpler calculations.

The arithmetic operations on fuzzy number are basic content in fuzzy mathematics. But still the operations of fuzzy arithmetic operations are not established. There are some arithmetic operations for computing fuzzy number. Certain are analytical methods and further are approximation methods. In this paper we, compare the multiplication operation on triangular fuzzy number between α-cut method and standard approximation method and give some examples.

The correlation coefficient of variables has wide applications in statistics and is often calculated in crisp or fuzzy environment. This article extends the application of correlation coefficient to intuitionistic fuzzy environment. In this article, a new method is proposed to measure the correlation coefficient of intuitionistic fuzzy numbers using weakest triangular norm based intuitionistic fuzzy arithmetic operations. Different from previous studies, the correlation coefficient computed in this article is an intuitionistic fuzzy number rather than a crisp or fuzzy number. It is well known that the weakest t-norm arithmetic operations effectively reduce fuzzy spreads (fuzzy intervals) and provide more exact results. Therefore, a simplified, effective and exact method based on weakest t-norm arithmetic operations is presented to compute the correlation coefficient of intuitionistic fuzzy numbers. To illustrate the proposed method, the correlation coefficient between the technology level and management achievement from a sample of 15 machinery firms in Taiwan is calculated using proposed approach.

Fuzzy numbers are used to represent uncertainty. Various types of fuzzy numbers are used in practical applications. In this paper we define Perfect Pentagonal Fuzzy Number (PPFN), Quadrilateral Fuzzy Number (QNF) and Left skewed Quadrilateral Fuzzy Number and Right skewed Quadrilateral Fuzzy Number. We study their algebraic properties with numerical examples.

In this paper, a computer implementation to evaluate the arithmetic operations on two fuzzy numbers with linear membership functions has been developed. The fuzzy arithmetic approached by the interval arithmetic is used here. The algorithm of the developed method with a numerical example is also provided. Using this method four basic arithmetic operations between any two TFNs can be evaluated without complexity. Keywords: Fuzzy arithmetic, Fuzzy number, Membership Function, Interval arithmetic, α - cut. The weaving machine’s reliability is assessed using newly introduced fuzzy numbers. The fuzzy numbers introduced in this study give a better method to improve the reliability than other techniques. Pendant Fuzzy Number, Hexant Fuzzy Number, and Octant Fuzzy Number are all introduced in this present study. Pendant Fuzzy Number, Hexant Fuzzy Number, and Octant Fuzzy Number,α-cuts are defined, as well as their mathematical operations. The numerical examples are utilised to conduct a comparative research of reliability using various Fuzzy Numbers, and their defuzzification is accomplished using various ways such as Signed Distance method, Graded Mean Integration Method and Centroid Method. The purpose of this study is to discover the most reliable value for a weaving machine.

In the present paper, the generalized hexagonal fuzzy number has been newly introduced to deal fuzzy transshipment problem. We solved balance and unbalance fuzzy transshipment problem by various methods. Various methods are compared to find the best solution. The objective of our paper is to find the best method for solving transshipment problem. This procedure is illustrated with numerical examples.
