<p>This paper explores the New Zealand Transport Agency Economic Evaluation Manual from the perspective of best practices in international literature. Drawing upon research from the international community and policy-focused bodies like the OECD, the paper seeks to improve the NZTA EEM’s quality by employing hedonic and revealed-preference methods to create a more accurate tool to derive the value of certain transport investments. The paper finds that the value of time in New Zealand is far too low, the discount regime improperly reflects the nature of such investments, cycling benefits are undervalued, and property values are not accounted for as well as they could be. The paper then applies these findings to the recently-completed Public Transport Spine Study in Wellington, New Zealand to illustrate the importance of accurate economic evaluation of transport investments.</p>

Recent studies have shown that gender is the personal aspect that mostly affects mobility patterns and travel behaviors. It has been observed, for instance, that female perception of unsafety and insecurity when traveling using public transport forces them to make unwanted travel choices, such as avoiding traveling at certain times of day and to specific destinations. In order to improve the attractiveness of public transport services, this gender gap must not be overlooked. This paper aims at contributing to research in gendered mobility by investigating differences in safety and security perceptions in railway stations, and by identifying which policies could be effective in bridging any existing gap. The methodology includes the collection of disaggregate data through a mixed Revealed Preference/Stated Preference survey, and the estimation of fixed and random parameters behavioral models. Results from a medium-sized Italian railway station show that female travelers feel safer in the presence of other people; they prefer intermodal infrastructures close to the entrance of the station and commercial activities in the internal premises. Moreover, unlike male travelers, they do not appreciate the presence of hedges and greenery outside stations.

Objectives: This research was undertaken to examine the economic benefit of mechanization in dehusking arecanut. Methods/Statistical analysis: A sample consisting 15 each of pre-harvest contractors, arecanut farmers using machines of different capacities for dehusking arecanut were randomly selected from Davanagere district of Karnataka. The economic viability of mechanization was assessed under these situations using partial budgeting technique. Findings: The results of the study indicated that the cost of dehusking one quintal of arecanut using machine was ₹141 as compared to manual method (₹276) in case of pre-harvest contractors. The per quintal cost of dehusking of own arecanut produce came to Rs.78 as against manual method(Rs.277)in case of farmers who used the machine for dehusking of their own arecanut produce and rental purpose. Application/Improvements: The study suggested that marginal farmers should use two gear machine, small farmers four gear machine and large farmers six gear machine to economize dehusking their own farm produce and earning rental income. Enthusiastic readers within and outside the publishing industry have lamented the paucity of international literature translated into English. Despite the widely held belief that translated literature does not sell, small presses and literary organizations have emerged over the past decade to take the lead in advocating for more translated literature and more recognition for translators. Drawing on media coverage and industry panels over the past five years as well as the recent success of translated titles by Clarice Lispector, Valeria Luiselli, and Elena Ferrante, this paper investigates the emerging visibility of translators and identifies opportunities to harness and elevate that visibility in developing a readership for translated literature.
