PurposeThrough the lens of social exchange theory, this study aims to assess the relationship between proactive personality and innovative work behavior by incorporating the mediating role of work engagement and moderating role of transformational leadership between proactive personality and work engagement.Design/methodology/approachData were collected from 259 employees working in Pakistani small-medium enterprises (SMEs). The purposive sampling technique was used to collect data. For hypothesis testing, Preacher and Hayes process macro was employed.FindingsConfirmatory factor analysis verified the distinctiveness of the variables used in this study. The findings show that a proactive personality had a positive influence on innovative work behavior directly and indirectly through work engagement, and transformational leadership positively moderates the relationship between a proactive personality and work engagement in such a way that with high transformational leadership behavior relationship will be strengthened.Originality/valueThis study has addressed three research questions that have been left unanswered in the literature. The initial research question is “how proactive personality enhances innovative work behavior?” This study found that proactive personality enhanced innovative work behavior. The second research question is “what are the suggested mechanisms for proactive personality to promote innovative work behavior?” This study has proven that a proactive personality enhanced innovative work behavior through an important mediating mechanism, namely work engagement. Finally, the third question of the study is “does transformational leadership moderate the relationship between proactive personality and work engagement? The study shows that transformational leadership positively moderates between proactive personality and work engagement.

Purpose – The direct relationship between person-organization (P-O) fit and employee’s positive work attitudes and behaviours have been well researched. However, there has been no study on the impact of P-O fit on innovative work behaviour (IWB) of the nurses. The purpose of this paper is to fill this gap in the literature. In order to give a complete understanding of the psychology surrounding P-O fit, this study has longitudinally analysed the relationship between P-O fit and IWB along with the impact of a potential mediator, i.e. knowledge sharing behaviour (KSB) on this relationship. Design/methodology/approach – A total of 357 nurses and 71 doctors from three government hospitals of Thailand filled out the questionnaires. Structural equation modelling was used to analyse the relationships. Findings – Results of the study indicate that a nurse’s P-O fit is positively associated with both self and doctor ratings of innovative behaviours; and KSB acts as a partial mediator between P-O fit and IWB at both Times 1 and 2. These results imply that a nurse’s perceived fit in the hospital impacts his/her engagement into IWB. As nurses share knowledge with their co-workers frequently, it tends to strengthen the relationship between P-O fit and IWB. Originality/value – Study findings begin to explain how P-O fit impacts IWB of nurses. Specifically, the author find that KSB explains the relationship between P-O fit and IWB.

Despite the theoretical foundation that links Transformational leadership (TFL) with innovation behavior, previous studies have overlooked on Transformational leadership and innovation behavior at the individual level relationship but paid less attention to how transformational leadership qualities of top leaders would advance innovative work behavior within the organizational setting. To date, the impact of Transformational leadership at a top executive level on employee’s innovative work behavior (IWB) within an organizational setting has not been dealt with in-depth. However, using transformational leadership theory, this study uncovers the pivotal role of innovation culture (IC) and managerial innovation (MI) in the relationship between CEO transformational leadership and employee’s innovation behavior in SMEs. A cross-sectional design with a total of 434 employees from 24 SMEs operating from Rwanda was analyzed using structural equation modeling to evaluate the relationship between the variables developed in the study. The findings of this study support our hypothesized model.

There is an abundance of research that supports the relationship between proactive personality and work engagement and between work engagement and innovative work behaviors. However, there has been no study that examined work engagement as a mediator of the relationship between proactive personality and innovative work behaviors. Similarly, there has been no study that examined work engagement as a mediator between the personality traits of curiosity and exploration, with innovative work behaviors This research examines among other things, the compatibility between proactive personalities of employees, with transformational leadership behaviors of their superiors i.e. the superior-subordinate fit. It also examines the personality trait of openness to experience as a moderator affecting the dependent variable of innovative work behaviors. This study also investigates the possible moderating effect of transformational leadership on the relationship between proactive personality and work engagement. It is hypothesized that when proactive people have superiors that exhibit transformational leadership behaviors, they become even more engaged in their work. Similarly, employees with personality characteristics of curiosity and exploration, become more engaged when they are working under superiors who practice more transformational leadership behaviors, compared with employees whose superiors exhibit less transformational leadership behaviors. It is finally hypothesized that openness to experience will positively moderate the relationship between work engagement and innovative work behaviors such that people who are more open to experience will exhibit more innovative work behaviors when engaged At this stage, this represents a conceptual paper. A full quantitative study will be undertaken which will include instruments in the form of self-administered questionnaires distributed among employees involved in the aviation industry in the UAE. Keywords: Proactive personality, curiosity, and  exploration, work engagement, transformational leadership, openness to experience, innovative work behaviors.

Purpose – This paper concurrently examines the antecedents, moderator as well as mediator of innovative work behavior (IWB). Design/methodology/approach – The paper reports a quantitative study of 510 managers from two service organizations based in western India. The focus of the paper is to examine the predictive ability of leader–member exchange (LMX), perceived organizational support (POS) and engagement on employees' IWB. Role of LMX as moderating variable (in POS–IWB relationship) and work engagement as the underlying mechanism explaining the relationship between predicting variables (LMX and POS) and IWB is tested. Findings – Results suggest that LMX, POS and work engagement positively relate to innovative employee behavior; LMX moderates the relationship between POS and innovative employee behavior. Additionally, work engagement mediates the relationship of LMX and POS with IWB. Research limitations/implications – Although this study is cross-sectional in nature, its findings have implications for contemporary leadership and organizational psychology research. Originality/value – This study significantly contributes to four different bodies of knowledge–work engagement, LMX, POS and IWB. The study also contributes in terms of its context. With increasing multinational opening their business in India, an understanding of employee motivation has become an important concern. This research is one of the rare attempts to examine engagement levels of Indian managerial employees.

Introduction/Main Objectives: This study aims to determine the existence of innovative work behavior ecosystems for Indonesia’s government employees Background problems: The quality of individual employees partially determines the quality of the organization. The abilities of the different employees who work in the same system will undoubtedly deliver the government employee and possibly produce results which are less than were expected. Novelty: The previous studies have examined innovative work behavior, focusing on the external factors and ignoring the internal factors of individual traits. This study focused on investigating the interrelationship among the factors that will be affected by innovative behavior, especially in government employees in Indonesia. Methods: This study examines the relationship among these variables using structural equation modeling (SEM) with LISREL 8.8 as the statistical tool. Finding/Result: This study found that transformational leadership and work engagement positively influence innovative work behavior. Unexpectedly, this research indicates an insignificant relationship between organizational justice and innovative work behavior among government employees. Besides, this study also found that transformational leadership and organizational justice have an impact on work engagement. Conclusion: These findings provide managerial implications about the need to strengthen employees’ innovative work behavior to ensure the organization’s continuity. Additionally, the results prove that innovative work behavior by government employees is supported by government’s role such as the style of leadership and work engagement.

The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between workplace ostracism (WO), workplace incivility (WI), and innovative work behavior (IWB), using job anxiety as a mediating variable. Building on the conservation of resource (COR) theory, this study proposes a theoretical framework. In this framework, workplace ostracism and workplace incivility are theorized to strengthen innovative work behavior, directly and indirectly, through job anxiety. Data were collected from the workers of small and medium sized enterprise (SME) entrepreneurs located in Pakistan. To estimate the proposed relationships in the conceptual model, we used structural equation modeling (SEM) through AMOS-21. The outcomes of this study confirmed that workplace ostracism and workplace incivility had a negative impact on innovative work behavior. It was also confirmed that job anxiety mediates in the relationship between workplace ostracism, workplace incivility, job anxiety, and innovative work behavior. At the end of the study, we thoroughly discussed the conclusions, practical implications, limitations, and future research directions of the study.
