The purpose of this study is to understand how leader humility effectively stimulates follower creativity in the workplace during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) scenario. Relying on social cognitive and social information processing theories, this study investigates how leader humility cultivates follower self-efficacy and follower creativity. Furthermore, it explores an intervening mechanism of follower self-efficacy and examines a moderating role of leader proactive personality. The hypothesized model is empirically tested by collecting the data from 405 employees and 87 managers working in the banking sector of Pakistan. The results indicate that leader humility is positively related to follower self-efficacy and follower creativity, which improve the organization’s innovation climate and an environment for social sustainability. Follower self-efficacy is also significantly related to follower creativity. The mediation analysis shows that follower self-efficacy mediates the relationship between leader humility and follower creativity. Additionally, leader proactive personality moderates the relation between follower self-efficacy and follower creativity. This study highlights the importance of leader humility for creativity and extends the literature by explaining the role of self-efficacy. Furthermore, the findings may assist the policymakers in how a humble leader heightens employee creativity and social sustainability in COVID-19.

PurposeMany studies have examined the positive outcomes of humble leadership for employees. However, its impact on newcomers' well-being has been rarely investigated. In this paper, based on affective events theory and the broaden-and-build theory of positive emotions, the authors proposed a moderated mediation model to explore the effect of humble leadership on newcomer well-being. In the model, we identified newcomers' pride as a mediating variable and newcomers' proactive personality as a moderating variable.Design/methodology/approachThe data were from a two-wave sample containing 213 newcomers. The hypothesized model was tested using partial least squares structural equational modeling.FindingsThe results demonstrated that humble leadership was positively related to newcomers' well-being, and newcomers' pride medicated this relationship. Additionally, newcomers' proactive personality moderated the relationship between humble leadership and newcomers' pride.Research limitations/implicationsThe authors adopted a cross-sectional research design, rendering it difficult to derive causal relationships between variables. In addition, all data were from self-reports of newcomers which would suffer from common method variance.Originality/valueThis research examined the role of humble leadership in promoting newcomers' pride and well-being.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether the proactive personality of Pakistani bank employees influenced their job performance. With the awareness of the importance of job performance in the banking sector of Pakistan, researchers also examined the mediating role of work engagement in the relationship between proactive personality and job performance. A total of 315 responses were obtained from officers to test the relationship between proactive personality and job performance, and to examine the mechanism via work engagement. The researchers analyzed respondents’ demographic profiles in SPSS version 23 and developed several hypotheses through structural equation modelling technique which were tested in SmartPLS version 3. The findings of the study showed a significant positive relationship between proactive personality and the three dimensions of job performance: task performance, individual- directed citizenship behavior (OCBI), and organizational-directed citizenship behavior (OCBO). The study results also supported the main hypothesis that work engagement mediated the relationship between proactive personality and job performance. The findings of the study present a few useful insights to the HR department and policymakers in the banking sector. Proactive personality should be considered as one of the necessary dispositions to be evaluated in hiring decisions. Bank management should devote more attention on the work engagement of employees and its related factors to boost employees’ performance at work.

Entrepreneurship in Indonesia is still relatively low and lagging behind other ASEAN countries because the number of entrepreneurs in Indonesia has only reached 3.47% of the total population. College students have become one of the vital sources of supply for entrepreneurs in Indonesia. Therefore, to increase the number of entrepreneurs, the Indonesian government encourages higher education to produce graduates looking for work and creating jobs. Even though the government and universities have tried to increase the number of entrepreneurial students, the number of students who choose entrepreneurship as a professional career choice is still low. This research was conducted to see how students' entrepreneurial intention (EI) in Indonesia as a forecaster of entrepreneurial behaviour. The research analyses the effect of proactive personality traits and the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) as an integrated model, with the TPB dimension as a mediator. The research was conducted by using judgmental sampling of 387 students in Indonesia. Data collection was carried out using an e-survey, and data were analyzed using structural equation modelling with Partial Least Square (PLS). Research result shows that proactive personality and TPB are predictors of students' entrepreneurial intentions. This study also shows that TPB mediates the relationship between proactive personality towards Student' entrepreneurial intention. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the EI study of students in Indonesia. Scientifically, this research is also expected to enrich the EI literature by integrating proactive personality as an antecedent of TPB and EI.

This study examined the characteristics of university new graduates’ career adaptability and the effects of individual internal factors during COVID-19. In January 2021, 1160 Chinese university new graduates completed self-report measures. Career adaptability was related to less intolerance of uncertainty and anxiety sensitivity and higher levels of proactive personality and resilience. Resilience mediated the relationships between intolerance of uncertainty, anxiety sensitivity, and career adaptability. Proactive personality buffered the negative effect of anxiety sensitivity on career adaptability. Implications for promoting career adaptability and alleviating the effects of intolerance of uncertainty and anxiety sensitivity in the COVID-19 epidemic and beyond are discussed.

Purpose Youth entrepreneurship has been identified as a key driver in overcoming the economic crisis spurred by youth unemployment. However, the understanding of youth entrepreneurship is largely based on research in high-income countries. Furthermore, entrepreneurship studies to date are largely limited to the independent effects of individual traits on entrepreneurial intention (EI). Hence, this study aims to model the cognitive and social conditions, mediating processes and interactions to understand how youth EI can be formed and strengthened in an emerging economy. Design/methodology/approach A cross-sectional sample of 295 Malaysian youths participating in an online entrepreneurship program were included to assess their family socioeconomic background, individual personality traits and EI using regression, mediation and moderation models. Within the sample, 29 youths who completed the program were examined for pre- and post-training intervention differences to identify whether entrepreneurial traits can be developed. Findings Results showed that a proactive personality or proactiveness was a key mediator in how an internal locus of control (ILOC) and self-esteem influence EI. Furthermore, ILOC and proactiveness were found to compensate for the lack of parental financial support in the formation of EI among low-income youth. Finally, there was a significant increase in proactive personality scores post-intervention, indicating that this trait can be strengthened through entrepreneurship programs. Research limitations/implications This study focused on parental income as an indicator of family socioeconomic background, which may not accurately represent the diversity of the socio-ecological environment of an individual. Therefore, future research should assess the multi-dimensional indicators of socioeconomic status and their relations with psychological attributes in shaping EI. Furthermore, this study observed a small sample size for the pre- and post-intervention analysis. Hence, more studies with large sample sizes are needed to examine the impact of entrepreneurship education. Practical implications Considering that entrepreneurship is envisioned as an instrument to lift youths out of poverty, this study has important implications for entrepreneurship programs that target low-income youths. The findings suggest that such programs need to first emphasize developing ILOC and proactiveness among these youths, thus enabling them to overcome various structural barriers toward entrepreneurship, as opposed to a purely knowledge-based learning approach. Social implications To effectively lift youths out of poverty through entrepreneurship, policymakers and educational institutions need to first recognize that the EI of youth from varying socioeconomic backgrounds are formed differently. Hence, the approach of entrepreneurship programs catered toward youth from lower socioeconomic backgrounds will differ from programs catered to youths who are financially secure. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, entrepreneurship programs targeted at low-income youths must first emphasize building their mindsets of ILOC and proactivity to overcome financial challenges as opposed to focusing solely on building entrepreneurial skills and knowledge. Originality/value The findings offer a more holistic and nuanced view of the contingencies where the efforts of policymakers, educational institutions and practitioners are more likely to succeed in stimulating EI among youths in emerging economies. In addition, the study also bridges the gap between the theoretical understanding of EI and the practical implications of developing effective entrepreneurship programs by combining the cross-sectional analysis and pre- and post-intervention test in the same study. Importantly, the study highlighted the importance of considering youth’s socioeconomic background in the design and implementation of entrepreneurship programs.

This research investigates the relationships among proactive personality, job stress, and job satisfaction. Organizations are mostly considered people who are more actively performing their tasks and can take the initiative to change overall performance. Here we discuss the role of proactive personality and level of job satisfaction because the person who is more satisfied with their job works due to full of passion, energy, are more effective for the organization. The effect of job stress on the proactive personality on their job satisfaction. Proactive behavior has significant importance in the selection and hiring processes of a company. Data was collected from doctors and nurses of different private and public hospitals and their private clinics. In the current study, a data sample of 392 was collected from different govt and private sectors and used the parceling item method for measurement and structural modeling for the best results. It is demonstrated that proactive personality positively correlated with individual job satisfaction.
