Extended stiffened end-plate connections are widely used in seismic area due to their good performance in terms of both resistance and ductility. The most of existing studies focused on the all-steel behavior of these joints, disregarding the composite action of the concrete slab that is generally disconnected. However, the presence of the concrete slab can have beneficial effects on the structural stiffness for both gravity and lateral loads. Hence, most of the building frames are usually designed considering steel-concrete composite solution. However, the slab can strongly influence the hierarchy between beam and column and the ductility of the joint. In this paper the influence of composite deck on the response of extended stiffened end-plate joins has been investigated by means of finite element analyses (FEAs). In particular, the following details have been investigated: (i) all steel joints without slab; (ii) steel joint with disconnected slab; (iii) composite joint.

Abstract. Recent work has shown that disparate systems can be described as complex networks i.e. assemblies of nodes and links with nontrivial topological properties. Examples include technological, biological and social systems. Among them, earthquakes have been studied from this perspective. In the present work, we divide the Southern California region into cells of 0.1°, and calculate the correlation of activity between them to create functional networks for that seismic area, in the same way that the brain activity is studied from the complex network perspective. We found that the network shows small world features.

The Patchawarra Formation is characterised by Permian aged fluvial sediments. The conventional hydrocarbon play lies within fluvial sandstones, attributed to point bar deposits and splays, that are typically overlain by floodbank deposits of shales, mudstones and coals. The nature of the deposition of these sands has resulted in the discovery of stratigraphic traps across the Western Flank of the Cooper Basin, South Australia. Various seismic techniques are being used to search for and identify these traps. High seismic reflectivity of the coals with the low reflectivity of the relatively thin sands, often below seismic resolution, masks a reservoir response. These factors, combined with complex geometry of these reservoirs, prove a difficult play to image and interpret. Standard seismic interpretation has proven challenging when attempting to map fluvial sands. Active project examples within a 196 km2 3D seismic survey detail an evolving seismic interpretation methodology, which is being used to improve the delineation of potential stratigraphic traps. This involves an integration of seismic processing, package mapping, seismic attributes and imaging techniques. The integrated seismic interpretation methodology has proven to be a successful approach in the discovery of stratigraphic and structural-stratigraphic combination traps in parts of the Cooper Basin and is being used to extend the play northwards into the 3D seismic area discussed.
