The mechanical properties of the seam metal of a low-carbon low-alloy steel welded joint of the 22K type (Russian standard) have been investigated when testing for uniaxial tension in the temperature range from room temperature to 1200 °C. A comparative analysis of the changes in the structure, the strength and plastic properties of base metal and weld seam metal in the selected temperature range was carried out.

Microstructure and mechanical properties of automobile beam used BS700MC low carbon micro-alloy steel welding joint were investigated by cold crack sensitivity, microhardness test, bending, impact, tensile and metallographic analysis. The results showed that the BS700MC steel has better crack resistance, and without heat treatment before welding with the WH80-G welding wires. The microstructure of joint’s weld seam is acicular ferrite, very little bainite and proeutectoid ferrite. The hardness value of weld seam zone is 380 HV and is the same as that of base metal. But the lower of weld joints rigidity has obvious fluctuations, and the HAZ appears softened phenomenon. The welding joint has good impact toughness only between 20 and minus 20 degrees Celsius. The tensile strength of BS700MC welded joint reaches 815 MPa, 97.1% of base metal, fracture position in HAZ. Tensile fracture morphology is mixed type indicating dimple and cleavage steps, and welding joint have good comprehensive mechanical properties.

Aim at the issue that the bending crack is easy to generate inside dissimilar welded joint of low alloy steel and stainless steel, a new process of submerged arc welding filled with Ni wire is put forward. The influence mechanism of filling quantity of Ni wire to the joint of microstructure evolutions and mechanical properties is mainly explored based on the contrast test of non-filling Ni wire and three different filling speeds of Ni wire. The experiment results indicate that, the filling process of Ni wire supplies austenite forming element, and alters heat allocation process of molten pool. The filling quantity of Ni wire is the quantitative parameter, it is used to control the transition width between low alloy steel and weld metal, also to adjust the peak temperature and holding time at elevated temperature of molten pool. When the value of the filling quantity of Ni wire is determined, the problem of bending crack in the fusion zone of low alloy steel can be solved, and also the overheat damage can be eliminated. At the same time, the grains of weld metal and heat affected zone are refined. And on this basis the plasticity, toughness and microhardness of welded joint can be guaranteed.
