AbstractProblematic phosphatic sclerites Eurytholia are reported for the first time from the Middle Devonian. Unequivocal sclerites were observed in limestones of Emsian to late Eifelian age in six localities of the Barrandian area of the Central Bohemia of the Czech Republic. Formerly observed size and shape variations of Eurytholia sclerites prevent formal description of a new species on few specimens of Emsian and Eifelian age. Therefore the new specimens are identified as Eurytholia aff. bohemica. Their presence indicates longer time range of the Eurytholia animal, covering not only the Ordovician, the Silurian and the earliest Devonian as known formerly, but also late Lower Devonian and the Middle Devonian. Similar features in morphology and histology of Eurytholia indicate relationship to a conodont Pseudooneotodus and a support suggestion about the vertebrate origin of Eurytholia sclerites.

Abstract The calceolide coral Calceola sandalina (Linné, 1771) has been observed in the Acanthopyge Limestone (Choteč Formation, Eifelian) in the Koněprusy area, Czech Republic. Its presence in the Barrandian area indicates absence of significant palaeogeographic barriers restricting the distribution of this tetracoral in the Middle Devonian. Association of Calceola with a taxonomically diverse ribbed brachiopod faunas attests for two different types of environment on the Koněprusy submarine elevation during deposition of the Acanthopyge Limestone. Calceola-bearing beds represent a high-energy reefal environment different from somewhat deeper and calmer environment characterized by smooth-shelled, small to medium sized spire-bearing brachiopods.

Abstract The vertebrate faunas in limestone samples of the Early and Middle Devonian ages (Pragian, early Emsian, late Emsian, and latest Eifelian) which were collected from five localities in the Barrandian area, Bohemia, include scales, tesserae, bones, and teeth of acanthodians, placoderms, chondrichthyans, and sarcopterygians. Although the vertebrate remains are not abundant the assemblages are significant in being dominated by particular taxa. Apart from undetermined microremains the genera Cheiracanthoides, Laliacanthus, Nostolepis, and Tassiliodus were determined.

Abstract The earliest ostracods from the Bohemian Massif (Central European Variscides) have been recorded from the Middle Ordovician of the Prague Basin (Barrandian area), in the upper Klabava Formation, and became an abundant component of fossil assemblages in the overlying Šarka Formation. Both early ostracod associations consist of eight species in total, representing mainly eridostracans, palaeocopids, and binodicopids. The revision, description, or redescription of all species and their distribution in the basin is provided. Their diversification patterns and palaeogeographical relationships to ostracod assemblages from other regions are discussed.

This contribution briefly summarizes the history of research, modes of preservation and stratigraphic distribution of 51 trilobite and five agnostid taxa from the Barrandian area, for which the early developmental stages have been described.
