The article constitutes a widely researched account of mental patients and their perceptions in the early history of Israel, especially its second decade. It focuses on a single generation, which experienced the traumas of war in Europe, followed by insecurity in Israel’s struggle for independence. The article claims that in the 1960s many suffered from depression, reflected in a record number of patients in mental hospitals and mentally sick people, mostly of European origin. This study describes Israeli society in the 1960s as disturbed, immersed in nightmarish dreams and close to madness; it also discusses the genetic and neurological vulnerabilities which induced the psychosis and the social response that converted it into a chronic illness.

We ask a question about the possibility of a discontinuous phase transition and the related social hysteresis within the q-voter model with anticonformity. Previously, it was claimed that within the q-voter model the social hysteresis can emerge only because of an independent behavior, and for the model with anticonformity only continuous phase transitions are possible. However, this claim was derived from the model, in which the size of the influence group needed for the conformity was the same as the size of the group needed for the anticonformity. Here, we abandon this assumption on the equality of two types of social response and introduce the generalized model, in which the size of the influence group needed for the conformity q c and the size of the influence group needed for the anticonformity q a are independent variables and in general q c ≠ q a . We investigate the model on the complete graph, similarly as it was done for the original q-voter model with anticonformity, and we show that such a generalized model displays both types of phase transitions depending on parameters q c and q a .

This study examines the aspirations of children with disabilities in attending school and their tendency to drop out of school. This study answers the question of how disabilities influence aspirations to attend school in relation to the tendency to drop out of school. Data were collected through interviews and observations of three children with disabilities who dropped out of school and three children with disabilities who do not. Data were analysed using the techniques of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the aspirations of attending school were influenced by three considerations: targets, results of risk factor analysis, and social responses. The social response shows the most dominant attention because it is often manifested by support (friendship) or obstacles (intimidation and discrimination). If the social response is positive, then the aspirations of going to school will increase, which affects the sustainability of children in school.[Penelitian ini mengkaji aspirasi anak difabel untuk bersekolah dan kecenderungannya untuk putus sekolah.
