The roads and gates described in the previous section are of very varied dates, and many of them were in use over a long period. They have been described first because they constitute the essential framework for any serious topographical study of Veii. Within this framework the city developed, and in this and the following sections will be found described, period by period, the evidence for that development, from the first establishment of Veii in Villanovan times down to its final abandonment in late antiquity.Whatever the precise relationship of the Villanovan to the succeeding phases of the Early Iron Age in central Italy in terms of politics, race or language, it is abundantly clear that it was within the Villanovan period that the main lines of the social and topographical framework of historical Etruria first took shape. Veii is no exception. Apart from sporadic material that may have been dropped by Neolithic or Bronze Age hunters, there is nothing from the Ager Veientanus to suggest that it was the scene of any substantial settlement before the occupation of Veii itself by groups of Early Iron Age farmers, a part of whose material equipment relates them unequivocally to the Villanovan peoples of coastal and central Etruria.

Abstract Inversion of internal structure of the Earth using surface waves and free oscillations is a hot topic in seismological research nowadays. With the ambient noise data on seismically quiet days sourced from the gravity tidal observations of seven global distributed superconducting gravimeters (SGs) and the seismic observations for validation from three collocated STS-1 seismometers, long-period surface waves and background free oscillations are successfully extracted by the phase autocorrelation (PAC) method, respectively. Group-velocity dispersion curves at the frequency band of 2–7.5 mHz are extracted and compared with the theoretical values calculated with the preliminary reference Earth model. The comparison shows that the best observed values differ about ±2% from the corresponding theoretical results, and the extracted group velocities of the best SG are consistent with the result of the collocated STS-1 seismometer. The results indicate that reliable group-velocity dispersion curves can be measured with the ambient noise data from SGs. Furthermore, the fundamental frequency spherical free oscillations of 2–7 mHz are also clearly extracted using the same ambient noise data. The results in this study show that the SG, besides the seismometer, is proved to be another kind of instrument that can be used to observe long-period surface waves and free oscillations on seismically quiet days with a high degree of precision using the PAC method. It is worth mentioning that the PAC method is first and successfully introduced to analyze SG observations in our study.

AbstractIn the present work we investigate the possible relationship of long-period comets with five large and distant trans-Neptunian bodies (Sedna, Eris, 2007 OR10, 2012 VP113and 2008 ST291) in order to determine the probability of the transfer of a part of these kind of comets to the inner of the Solar System. To identify such relationships, we studied the relative positions of the comet orbits and listed TNOs. Using numerical integration methods, we examined dynamical evolution of the comets and have found one encounter of comet C/1861J1 and Eris.

The common ground and dissimilarities in the reciprocal influence between two apparently identical concepts in the Contemporary western political tradition - freedom and liberty - are dealt in this paper. The author tries to tackle the interrelated genealogy both of freedom and liberty categories, in the long period opened by the English Civil War and closed by the conflicting reactions to the French Revolution. The sovereignty concept on the other hand allows the reader to understand the ongoing dynamic of the crucial philosophical relationship of these two central concepts.
