Abstract Traditional multi-mode dispersion curve inversion requires correct mode discrimination. However, when the stratum contains complex structures such as low-speed soft interlayer or high-speed hard interlayer, the dispersion curve may show phenomena such as “mode kissing” and “mode jumping”, which can easily cause mode misjudgment and lead to erroneous inversion results. Based on the “secular function”, this paper constructs a new type of objective function applied to the inversion of dispersion curve. This objective function does not require prior mode discrimination, which effectively solves the “mode misjudgment” problem of multi-mode dispersion curve inversion. The joint inversion of Rayleigh and Love dispersion curves extracted from ambient seismic noise is used to improve the constraint of the inversion and avoid the inversion falling into a local minimum in the case of a large-scale search of parameters. Finally, a numerical simulation was performed to verify the feasibility of the new inversion method.

Abstract The method of spectral Fourier microscopy was used to study the reflection spectra with an angular resolution of submicron periodic gratings based on amorphous and crystalline Ge2Sb2Te5. The form of the dispersion curves of quasi-waveguide modes in the structures under study was established. The experimental data were compared with the calculations of dispersion curves in synthesized diffraction gratings. Reasonable agreement between theoretical and experimental data was obtained.

AbstractThe interaction between phonons and 4f electrons, which is forming a new quantum state (quasi-bound state) beyond Born-Oppenheimer approximation, is very prominent and lattice dynamics plays here a key role. There is only a small number of compounds in which the experimental observation suggest such a scenario. One of these compounds is CePd2Al2. Here the study of phonon dispersion curves of (Ce,La)Pd2Al2 at 1.5, 7.5, 80 and 300 K is presented. The inelastic X-ray scattering technique was used for mapping the phonon modes at X and Z points as well as in Λ and Δ directions, where the symmetry analysis of phonon modes was performed. The measured spectra are compared with the theoretical calculation, showing very good agreement. The measurements were performed in several Brillouin zones allowing the reconstruction of phonon dispersion curves. The results are discussed with respect to the magneto-elastic interaction and are compared with other cerium compounds. The phonon mode symmetry A1g was found to be unaffected by the interaction, which is in contrast to previous assumptions.

This paper presents the numerical study on propagative waves in a periodically supported rail below 6000 Hz. A periodic rail model, which considers the effects of both the periodic supports and the rail cross section deformation, has been established based on the periodic structure theory and the finite element method. Two selection approaches are proposed to obtain the concerned dispersion curves from the original calculation results of dispersion relations. The differences between the dispersion curves of different support conditions are studied. The propagative waves corresponding to the dispersion curves are identified by the wave modes. The influences of periodic supports on wave modes in pass bands are revealed. Further, the stop band behaviors are investigated in terms of the bounding frequencies, the standing wave characteristics, and the cross-sectional modes. The results show that eight propagative waves with distinct modes exist in a periodically supported rail below 6000 Hz. The differences between the dispersion curves of periodically and continuously supported rails are not obvious, apart from the stop band behaviors. All the bounding-frequency modes of the stop bands are associated with the standing waves. Two bounding-frequency modes of the same stop band can be regarded as two identical standing waves with the longitudinal translation of the quarter-wavelength, one of which is the so-called pinned-pinned resonance.
