This paper focuses on tribotechnical and physical-mechanical properties of the BSP-7 copolymer and organoplastics based on it with 10 ÷ 40 mass % of polyheteroarylene vniivlon fiber. It demonstrates that the reinforcement of copolymer with organic fiber improves its abrasive wear resistance by 64,2 % at a maximum filler content of 30 mass %. Proposed organoplastics based on the BSP-7 copolymer with effective content of 30 mass % of the filler can be recommended as a tribotechnical material for the manufacturing of the parts that work in the conditions of abrasive wear.

AbstractThis paper reviews work on the wear of metallic glasses in general, as well as reporting recent results on the abrasive wear of bulk metallic glasses. The distinctive mechanical properties of metallic glasses make their wear resistance of fundamental interest. Metallic glasses, and the partially or fully crystalline materials derived from them, can have very good resistance to sliding and abrasive wear. Standard wear laws are followed, with behaviour similar to that of conventional hardened alloys. The microhardness and abrasive wear resistance are measured for four bulk metallic glasses (based on La, Mg, Pd or Zr). The hardness and wear resistance correlate well with the Young's modulus of the glass.

This paper studies the influence of variables such as holding temperatures and times during austempering of High Chromium White Cast Iron (HCWCI), with the following chemical composition: Cr 25 %, C 3 %, Si 0.47 %, Mn 0.74 % and Mo 1.02 %. The aim of the austempering was to modify the percentage of retained austenite and its correlation to abrasive wear resistance under different conditions.Microhardness tests, SEM-EDS and XRD were performed to determine mechanical properties, chemical composition, and type of carbides and microstructures present, respectively. The tests complied with the ASTM G-65 standard. Results showed that the best performance against abrasion was achieved for austempering at 450 ºC with holding time of 6 hours.

The article explores the effect of quick-hardened alloy PR-N65X25S3R3 based on nickel, (chemical composition – Ni64,6Cr25C1,2Si2,7B2,5Mn0,2Fe3,8) on the physical and mechanical properties of metal-containing polymers. Carried out tests and results have shown that the use of quick-hardened alloys, which are characterized by a set of unique properties, is appropriate. The developed metal-containing polymers that contain aromatic polyamide phenylone and 5 - 20 wt.% of self-fluxing amorphous alloys PR-N65X25S3R3 are characterized by 2 times greater abrasive wear resistance and better adhesive strength between the components. Due to the use of quick-hardened alloy it was possible to increase theeffective filler content from 15 wt.% to 20 wt.% that will increase the electromagnetic properties of metal-containing polymers.

The indentation methods (HR15N, HV0.3, HIT, EIT) were used to evaluate differences between the WC-based coatings with 12, 17 and 25% of Co binder. The two sets of WC-12%Co coatings with two different sets of parameters were sprayed to evaluate the influence of spraying parameters. The measured mechanical characteristic were correlated to the to the wear resistance of the coatings evaluated by dry sand/rubber wheel test according to ASTM G-65 and pin-on disc according to ASTM G-99. The measured results showed that there is almost no difference between the abrasive wear resistance of WC-Co coating with 12 and 17% of Co binder, while the wear of coating with 25% of Co binder is significantly higher. The importance of the spraying parameters on the WC-12%Co coatings properties has been found to be comparable to the importance of binder content influence.

In this work, fique fibers used in Colombia’s footwear industry were characterized, functionalized, and added to a natural rubber/butadiene styrene rubber/polybutadiene (NR/SBR/BR) matrix. The morphological analysis of the fibers revealed a preferential orientation with formation of thin layers. The mixing of the composites was carried out in an open roll mill. Curing properties of the compounds were measured by using a moving disk rheometer to establish the effect of the fibers addition in the vulcanization parameters. Abrasive wear resistance, mechanical, and aging properties were evaluated. Processing conditions feasible to obtain NR/SBR/BR-fique fibers composites for commercial applications with suitable mechanical properties were found.
