Anastrepha nigrifascia Stone is one of six species of fruit flies of the genus Anastrepha which occur in Florida or which have been established in Florida at some time. This species appears to have a very restricted distribution, occurring only in the Florida Keys of Monroe County. Anastrepha edentata Stone has been collected in the Florida keys in every month of the year, but its host plants still are unknown. It is one of six species of fruit flies of the genus Anastrepha which occur in Florida or which have been established in Florida at some time. According to Division of Plant Industry records, it has not been found in Florida since 1936. There is a possibility that this species has not survived in Florida. Anastrepha ocresia (Walker) is one of six species of fruit flies of the genus Anastrepha which occur in Florida or which have been established in Florida at some time. This West Indian species has been collected in Florida only in the Keys of Monroe County where it has been found sparingly; it has not been found in Florida since 1936. There is a distinct possibility that this species has not survived in Florida. The lesser pumpkin fly, Dacus ciliatus (Loew), is one of several fruit flies found in Africa and Asia which could be expected to become serious pests of Florida agricultural crops if introduced into this state. The Japanese orange fly, Bactrocera tsuneonis (Miyake), is one of the most important pests of citrus in Japan. Extensive outbreaks have occurred in some commercial citrus areas since 1947 when up to 60 percent or more of the fruits were infested. The schoepfia fruit fly, Anastrepha interrupta Stone, is native to southern Florida and one of six Anastrepha species which occur in or have been established in Florida at some time. The species was described from southern Florida (Stone 1942) and is thus far known only from coastal counties of south-central Florida to Key West. The schoepfia fruit fly has not been found on any economic fruits and is only known to feed on fruit of Schoepfia chrysophylloides (A. Rich.) Planch. "False blister beetles," sometimes known also as "pollen feeding beetles," are unique in that adults of all the approximately 1,000 species in the world are obligate pollen feeders. They obtain their common name because many species cause blisters when pinched or squashed against the skin. Being pollen feeders, they are often common on flowers. They are also attracted to lights, and their numbers can be vast at night, especially on the Florida Keys. Oxycopis mcdonaldi (Arnett) causes skin blistering and makes itself a nuisance at resort areas where the beetles are attracted by night lights around swimming pools, tennis courts, and open air restaurants. The sapote fruit fly, Anastrepha serpentina (Wiedemann), sometimes called the serpentine fruit fly, is intercepted frequently in United States ports of entry in various hosts from several countries.
