Abstract The actual energy situation and the significant energy demand of agricultural production require the exploration and analysis of the general laws of the main processes in the field of energy, which is part of the borderline between the technical sciences and the agricultural sciences. Tillage machines change the physical properties of the soil, but at the same time the mechanical properties of the soil react to the implement. One of the basic works of seedbed preparation is harrowing. In this work we study the kinematics and dynamics of the active rotary harrow implements, taking into account the cutting resistance of the soil. The results obtained with the developed modeling methods, give reliable approximations to the experienced tilling processes.

While English for Specific Purposes has been dealt with by researchers all over the world, the insertion of educational technology and online environment is a relatively new concept. This article explores the main aspects of an effective online ESP learning process during the 2019-2020 academic year within the split frame generated by the pandemic context. It also aims at setting the educational frame for the future of ESP classes from the standpoint of the freshmen of Agricultural Sciences. An online questionnaire was answered, its structure being underlined by aspects such as content and skill-related tasks, accessibility, motivation, engagement, educational environment, media and assessment. The use of specialization-related materials is positively adjusted towards the online ESP classes, whereas frequency usage of skill-related tasks shows more balanced values between on-site and online ESP classes. In terms of schedule flexibility, the online medium is the more manageable of the two. If the combination of online exercises, specialized sites, online apps and platforms is clearly the norm for the online ESP classes, on-site assessment is evaluated as being more accurate. Although the students’ answers are relatively balanced, the majority agreed that the online environment is the most suitable frame for the future ESP classes.

Phyllopertha horticola Linné (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) is one of the most common phytophagous beetles in Central Europe. In 2020 the blueberry growers from the Mărişel area reported the presence of a new beetle that attacked the fruit’s flowers and leaves. The species was identified at the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Cluj-Napoca as the garden chafer. In the following year, the plants attacked by the garden beetle were monitored in the blueberry plantation in the Mărişel area. For monitoring the garden chafer, three rows of land were randomly selected in each plot with intervals of 20 plants per row. Each plant was analyzed individually and the number of adult beetles reported on the plant was noted. The observations were made between June and July 2021. In the Elliot variety, the share of plants reported with adults of Phyllopertha horticola Linné was between 50% and 60%, the average being 55%. Regarding the maximum number of adults/plant, it was between 6 specimens (raw 1) and 9 adults/plant (raw 2). In the Bluecrop variety, the share of plants with adults of the monitored species was between 10% and 45%, with an average per variety of 25%.

The first issue of volume 8 of the UDS International Journal of Development (UDSIJD) has been published. A total of eight papers are included in Volume 8, Issue 1 of the UDSIJD. Seven papers cover Humanities whilst one in the Agricultural Sciences. The UDSIJD has fully migrated its operations to an online journal management system and therefore, all authors, contributors, reviewers, and editors are to interact via the journal system. By this, it is imperative that one visits his/her dashboard regularly, to track updates to manuscripts and review. The UDSIJD urges all authors and contributors to pay particular attention to the journal’s guidelines and adhere strictly to them. Also, comments from peer review are meant to improve the quality of the manuscripts and hence should not be personalized. We encourage young academics, researchers, development practitioners, and entrepreneurs to submit original research across disciplines for consideration to be published in our journal. The UDSIJD strives to enhance scholarly communications with a development focus, on a regular and sustained basis. The Editorial Team wishes to sincerely thank the University Management, authors, reviewers, and staff of the Journal and all those who in diverse ways have supported in making this issue of the journal a reality.   The Editor-in-Chief Prof. G.
