The study was carried out to evaluate the heavy metals accumulation in the stems, leaves and roots of Lactuca sativa (Lettuce) and Spinacia oleracea (Spinach). Pot experiment was conducted to examine the phytoextraction ability of these plants for some heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Fe, Pb and Zn) in contaminated soils obtained from an area where indiscriminate burning of waste materials is being carried out beside FCE Katsina. Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) was used for the determination of heavy metals concentrations. The mean levels of metals accumulation evaluated in Lactuca sativa show a higher amount of Fe (47.97 mg/kg) with the lowest amount of Pb (0.44 mg/kg) which follows the order Fe>Zn>Cu>Cd>Pb. Similarly, Spinacia oleracea followed the trend where higher amount of Fe (24.13 mg/kg) with lower Cd (0.25 mg/kg) content was detected, which follows Fe>Zn>Cu>Pb>Cd. The bioaccumulation factor (BAF) was

It is well-known that melliferous bees are the most sensitive indicators of ecologic conditions of natural environment. Researches in recent years show that bees and bee products can accumulate selectively some heavy metals, radioactive substances, pesticides and other polluters. Scales of heavy metals accumulation on the territory of Ukraine, as toxins of technologic origin unfortunately increase. Environmental pollution by heavy metals leads to their accumulation in plant and animal raw materials and production, consequently their quality decreases. It was proved that apiary accommodation in heavy metal polluted territories leads to their accumulation in pollen, honey bee-comb and wax. But the questions concerning study of peculiarities of sources, ways of pollution and heavy metals content in bee products are not enough lightened, and that was the purpose of our work. Generalized we present in literature information and results of our researches about the use of bees and bee products in quality of bioindicator contamination of environment by heavy metals. Dependence of content of heavy metals is set in the organism of bees in relation intensity of greening to contamination of environment. It is marked on the necessity of lead through of systems research in relation to determination of content of heavy metals in fabrics of bees and bee products with the purpose of search of new methodological approaches for authentication these toxicant of objective environment of contamination and him apimonitoring. Methodological elements of the researches of regularities of heavy metals and lipids content in the tissues of different anatomic sections of the organism and bee products were elaborated.

The present paper approaches a usual problem in the industrialised area, respectively Zlatna Area in Romania. The aim of this research is to establish the heavy metal soil contamination degree using modern research methods namely spectrometric and stripping methods. The results pointed out very high exceeding values, especially in the case of lead and copper, in the studied area. Moreover, the mobility and the availability of heavy metals decreases when pH increases. Findings suggest that the use of modern technologies have good results regarding the determination of the heavy metals in the soil.

The study was conducted on heavy-metals accumulation in five demersal marine species from the Nigerian coastal water (FAO, Area 34) to ascertain the bio-integrity and safety of the Sea foods for export. Five hundred and six (506) specimens (Parapenaeopsis atlantica, Penaeus monodon, Penaeus notialis, Portunus validus and Cynoglossus browni). were sampled from 32 fishing trawlers owned by a reputable private company and assessed fresh for biological (morphometric data) and heavy metals analysis (In-vivo) using 210 Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). Study revealed the Mean weight (Mean±SD) of P. atlantica, P. monodon, P. notialis, P. validus and C. browni were: 9.42 ±0.26, 96.79 ± 2.38, 26.82 ± 1.34, 284.09 ± 7.34 and 411.09 ± 15.27g respectively. Heavy-metal accumulated in the muscles (mg/kg) showed Lead (Pb): 0.15 ± 0.05 for P. atlantica; 0.12 ± 0.06 for P. monodon; 0.15 ± 0.02 for P. notialis; 0.14 ± 0.07 for C. browni; and 0.14 ± 0.08 for P. validus. Iron (Fe) revealed: 2.7 ±0.07, 2.26 ± 0.06, 2.32 ± 0.08, 2.43 ± 0.12, and 2.42 ± 0.09 respectively. Zinc (Zn) also showed: 8.68 ± 0.12, 8.97 ± 0.14, 9.13 ± 0.12, 8.99 ± 0.11 and 8.86 ± 0.08 respectively. Zn and Fe value for P. atlantica were above acceptable limit by FAO/WHO standard. The decreasing order of mean concentrations was Zn>Fe>Pb. Arsenic (As) and Cadmium (Cd) had values of <0.01 for all the species. This report concludes that Mercury (Hg) was not detected throughout the study for all the species. But the detection of lead, iron and zinc in the muscles of species under study cast grey light on the integrity and safety of the fish species and thus relevant agencies are required to respond to reduce this trend for the safety of humans.
