The species diversity of bumblebees was investigated in three provinces Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh during 2007-2010. Bumblebee queens, workers and males were collected right from the commencement till to the end of flowering stage in all the three mountain regions. In total, 27 species of bumblebees were collected and identified, of which eleven species were common in the two regions, e.g., Kashmir and Ladakh. A list of species assemblages and abundance is provided in each of the mountain ranges. Species diversity of three regions was determined with Shannon-Weiner diversity index and evenness was calculated with indices of Pielou. The obtained results showed species diversity; evenness and species richness were more observable in Kashmir compared with Ladakh and Jammu. The three sample sites within the Kashmir Himalayas indicate significant differences in species diversity; the Kashmir region had higher species diversity and richness than the other regions. Most species of bumblebees were collected in altitudinal ranges of 3000-4000m. Four species viz. Bombus cornutus, B. parthenius, B. miniatus and B. morawitizianus are recorded for the first time from this region, while B. morawitizianus turn out to be the first record to the national list.Key words: Species Diversity; Bumblebees; Kashmir Himalayas.© 2012 JSR Publications. Loneuroides is registered for the first time in Brazil. A new species from the Brazilian state of Bahia, is here described and illustrated. It differs from all the other species in the genus in details of the female ninth sternum and by number of primary branches in vein M of fore- and hind- wings. A map with the distribution of the species of Loneuroides is included.

Six species of Eutardigrada are recorded from Portugal; four of them, Macrobiotus crenulatus Richters, 1904, Hypsibius seychellensis Pilato, Binda & Lisi, 2006, Diphascon (Diphascon) pingue (Marcus, 1936) and D. (Diphascon) patanei Binda & Pilato, 1971 are recorded for the first time in Portugal. Two species, Minibiotus orthofasciatus sp. nov. and Bertolanius (new name of Amphibolus) portucalensis sp. nov. are new to science. Minibiotus orthofasciatus sp. nov. is one of the species of the genus with three macroplacoids, microplacoid and cuticular pores forming transverse bands. The new species differs from all existing species by one or more of the following characters: distribution of the pores, shape of the pores, absence of dots on the legs, level of insertion of the stylet supports on the buccal tube. To the new species is attributed an unembryonated egg similar to those of Minibiotus intermedius (Plate, 1888), M. poricinctus Claxton, 1998, M. floriparus Claxton, 1998, and M. weglarskae Michalczyk, Kaczmarek & Claxton, 2005 but different from them in some details. Bertolanius portucalensis sp. nov. is very similar to the other species of the genus, but it differs from them in having very small cuticular tubercles. From some of them it differs by characters of the buccopharyngeal apparatus and/or of the eggs. This is the first record of the genus and of the Eohypsibiidae family in the Iberian Peninsula.

The present study identifies one species of the genus Octopus in the order: Octopoda (Cephalopoda: Mollusca), recorded forthe first time in the Iraqi coastal waters and Arabian-Persian Gulf. The study extended from January 2019 to December of thesame year. The Octopus specimens were seasonally obtained from the fishing trawlers operating in the Iraqi coastal waters inthe South of Al- Fao District, Basrah- Iraq, NW Arabian Gulf. The Octopus was identified as O. vulgaris in Iraqi coastal watersdepending on morphological features. The habitats of living specimens are briefly described. Some observations were reported on the occurrence of this species and the measurement of some environmental factors. The species was identified up to spe-cies level using standard literature. This species looks similar morphologically to the species which is already identified from the other areas around the world. The present study records significant expansion in the distribution range of this species.

One hundred and twenty captive chukars (Alectoris chukar) and other hosts from a pheasant farm in Jinacovice (Czech Republic) were searched for chewing lice from July 2003 to April 2004. Seven species of chewing lice were found on chukars: Amyrsidea perdicis, Menacanthus pallidulus, Menopon gallinae (Amblycera); Goniodes colchici, Lipeurus maculosus, Goniocotes microthorax and Cuclotogaster heterographus (Ischnocera). Except for the last two mentioned species, the other five louse species are recorded for the first time on chukars. The prevalence, mean intensity of infestation and mean abundance of the lice from chukars were recorded. The species diversity and distribution of chewing lice from another eight species of gallinaceous birds kept in the pheasant farm were also recorded.

Rheum moorcroftianum (Polygonaceae) was recorded for the first time in Kashmir Himalayas region. The species was identified using morphological and molecular (DNA-barcode) data. R. moorcroftianum can be distinguished from the other Rheum species on the basis of absence of stem, 3‒7 or more basal leaves, inflorescence in branched panicle, rachis papilliferous, perianth yellow-white, anthers pinkish-red, and seeds red, 3-winged.

The data of studies of fish populations in the basin of the Baidaratayakha river, received in 1998, 2002, 2013, 2014 are summarized for the first time. 18 species of fish are noted. Most of them belong to commercial and valuable species. The greatest species diversity is characteristic of the lower reaches of the river. In deep lakes and sections of the river near these lakes the density of fishes is higher. Scantiness of the fish population of river sites is due to the fact that most of the riverbeds in winter freeze. For this reason, there is no common minnow in the rivers. In most of the tundra non-riverine lakes that dominate among the waterbodies of the basin, there are no fish due to their shallow water and freezing. Some lakes of the lower reaches of the Baidaratayakha river are inhabited by fish only in summer (Asian smelt for breeding and whitefish for feeding). In some lakes, residential groupings (whitefish and pike) are formed. The estuary is used for feeding of whitefish from the Yuribey river and migrants from various regions of the Kara Sea (Arctic char, pink salmon, omul). The omul remains for the wintering in the estuary, most of the other whitefish return to the Yuribey river. The number of populations of residential forms of fish in most lakes is low due to low fish productivity and poaching. To preserve the resources of valuable fish species, it is proposed to include into the existing reserve Gornohadatinsky section of the upper and middle course of the Baidaratayakha river, where there are lakes that provide a reserve of grayling, and spawning grounds for the reproduction of arctic char and pink salmon.

1. A detailed description is given of a coccidian which parasitises the nuclei of the intestinal cells of the polychaete worm Polydora flava Claparède. The final stages in sporogony have not been observed; nevertheless, this is the first record, from an annelid worm, of an eimeriid which shows a striking resemblance to those Coccidia occurring in the higher animals. It is also the first record of an intranuclear parasite from an annelid.2. From the gut of the same worm, a new species of Selenidium is described. It differs from all other species, hitherto recorded, in the possession of an axial tube, which completely encloses the nucleus and extends from one end of the organism to the other: hence it is proposed to name this organism Selenidium axiferens. The anterior end of the trophozoite shows a circlet of siderophilous bodies, which Ray (1930 a) has shown to be characteristic of the genus.3. Both uninucleate and multinucleate intracellular forms, with polar groups of chromatic globules, have been discovered in great abundance on six occasions; no merozoites have been found, but evidence is submitted to show that these intracellular forms represent the schizogonic phase in the life-cycle of the Selenidium.4. Sporogony follows closely that described for other species, but the final stages have not been observed. The gametocysts measure 48 × 50–70 × 63μ.5. Association and cyst formation are described in Polyrhabdina polydorae Caul. & Mesn. (?) for the first time. Innumerable nuclei make their appearance in each gametocyte, before ejection of the cysts into the sea-water takes place. Gametocysts can easily be distinguished from those of Selenidium axiferens, not only by their morphology, but also by their greater size (98 × 90–105 × 100μ).

Abstract. Hossen S, Hossain MK, Hossain MA, Uddin MF. 2020. Quantitative assessment of tree species diversity of Himchari National Park (HNP) in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. Asian J For 5: 1-7. The aim of the study was to assess the tree species composition, dominance, and quantitative distribution of tree species of Himchari National Park, Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh through stratified random sampling method using sample plots (51) of 20 m x 20 m in size during the period of January 2017 to May 2018. A total of 961 stems (dbh ≥ 5 cm) of 88 tree species belonging to 64 genera and 37 families were enumerated where the stem density and basal area were 457.39 stem ha-1 and 10.979 m2 ha-1 respectively. On the other hand, the species diversity index, Shannon-Wiener’s diversity index, Shannon’s maximum diversity index, species evenness index, Margalef’s diversity index, and Simpson’s diversity index were 0.092, 3.733 ± 0.0071, 4.477, 0.834, 12.667 and 0.039 ± 0.0003 respectively. The highest Importance Value Index (IVI) was found for Acacia auriculiformis (23.23) followed by Tectona grandis (13.05), Gmelina arborea (12.66), Syzygium fruticosum (12.34), Casuarina equisetifolia (10.57), and Dipterocarpus turbinatus (10.55). The IVI value represents that Acacia auriculiformis possess highest dominance that is followed by Tectona grandis and Gmelina arborea. Percentage distribution of tree individuals into different height classes found in quadrats showed that height range 3 - <8 m had the highest (59.83%) percentage of tree individuals. On the other hand, different dbh (having dbh ≥5 cm) classes showed that most of the trees (65.97%) belonged to dbh range 5 - <15 cm. The outcome of present study suggests for the protection, sustainable management, and conservation of the tree resources of HNP, Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.

Background. The article presents the results of the research on bees (Hymenoptera, Apoidea) that occur in the city of Lviv. Bees are one of the most important pollinators of many species of angiosperm plants. Research on species diversity of bees is very important not only on the wild nature territories, but also on the urbanized areas. Cities have a significant impact on bee species diversity, their biology and conservation. A comprehensive study of all Apoidea on the whole territory of the city of Lviv has been conducted for the first time in more than 80 years and we hope that the presented materials will lay the foundation for further more detailed studies in this area. Materials and Methods. Lviv is the largest city in Western Ukraine located on the eastern edge of the Roztochia Upland. The material was collected during the warm period of 2017–2019. The Moericke (yellow) pan traps and the entomological nets were used. Besides, we collected dead bees (killed by traffic) along the roads. W have analyzed the entomological collection of the Zoological Museum of the Ivan Franko National University [ZMD] (Lviv). The stereoscopic microscope and a variety of specialized keys for bee species identification were used. We used the Shannon’s diversity index to assess species diversity. We also calculated the Shannon evenness measure to facilitate the interpretation of the results. Results. We analyzed 960 specimens of bees that belong to 106 species, 25 genera and 6 families. The current (second) part of our study deals with review of the Colletidae (3 species), Halictidae (22 species), Megachilidae (11 species) and Melittidae (5 species) families. Species diversity of the bees from Andrenidae and Apidae families was analyzed in previous (first) the part of our research [27]. Conclusions. All species from the six families are native for the territory of Europe. The majority of them are polylectic (≈ 61 %), while the number of oligolectic species (≈ 23 %), or species that do not need to collect pollen (≈ 16 %) is much smaller. The Shannon’s diversity index is approx. 3.718 and the Shannon evenness measure is 0.799 (the honeybee Apis mellifera was excluded in both calculations). Analysis of the impact of urbanization and various environmental factors on the species diversity of bees requires further detailed studies. Keywords: bees, species diversity, Lviv, Ukraine

The genus Procerobaetis Kaltenbach &amp; Gattolliat, 2020 is reported for the first time from Thailand, and Procerobaetis totuspinosussp. nov. is described as a new species based on larvae. It can be easily distinguished from other known Procerobaetis species by the presence of triangular spines at the posterior margin of tergites VI–IX. COI sequences were obtained from all known species. The genetic distances (Kimura 2-parameter) between the new species and the other species are between 20% and 23%. The morphological characters of the new species and its closely related species are discussed; larval key to all species of the genus Procerobaetis is also provided.
