About 90% of the information needed to drive is received by the driver visually through the eye. Little information is received by hearing (horns, shock markers) and sense of taste (rough profile/walking markers). The research objective was to evaluate the performance of traffic signs and road markings on several roads in Ternate City. This type of research is a combination of direct field surveys and observations as well as literature (literature) related to the placement of signs and markers in accordance with urban road traffic standards. This research was conducted on Jalan Merdeka and Jalan Ahmad Yani, Ternate City with the consideration that these roads have a fairly high traffic density. The results of the survey and observation of the condition of signs and road markings for Jalan Merdeka and Jalan Ahmad Yani in Ternate City, namely: there are still traffic signs that are not maintained and the condition of the signs is damaged. It is necessary to repair the leaf signs and repainting it. In some direction signs, the shape and size of the writing do not meet the standards of the Minister of the Republic of Indonesia No. 61 of 1993. Recommendations for placing signs and markings on roads with incomplete road equipment are as follows: warning signs for intersections, warning signs for T-junction, crossing signs and placing signs for public facilities.

This study intended to investigate the interactions between accident severity levels and traffic signs in state roads located in Croatia and explore the correlation between accident severity levels and heterogeneity attributed to unobserved factors. The data from 460 state roads between 2012 and 2016 were collected from Traffic Accident Database System maintained by the Republic of Croatia Ministry of the Interior. To address the correlation and heterogeneity, Bayesian bivariate Tobit quantile regression models were proposed, in which the bivariate framework addressed the correlation of residuals with Bayesian approach, while the Tobit quantile regression model accommodated the heterogeneity due to unobserved factors. By comparing the Bayesian bivariate Tobit quantile and mean regression models, the proposed quantile models showed priority to mean model. Results revealed that (1) low visibility and the number of invalid traffic signs per km increased the accident rate of material damage, death, or injury; (2) average speed limit exhibited a close relation with accident rate; and (3) the number of mandatory signs was more likely to reduce the accident rate of material damage, while the number of warning signs was significant for accident rate of death or injury.

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this research is to find out the number of road traffic facilities requirement as monitoring devices toward the implementation of management and traffic engineering in order to support safety road. The analytical method used are Descriptive Qualitative and Quantitative analysis. The conclusions of this study are the characteristics of road geometric in Gunungkidul Regency on the road border crossing between Bantul Regency and Gading Regency mostly are uphill and downhill road combined with curves roadside segmented which are indicates accidents-prone areas. Therefore it is required some of traffic signs for this segment about 128 units which are consisting of order signs 2 units, instruction signs 13 units, warning signs 108 units, and prohibition signs 5 units. Currently the number of traffic signs installed are 76 units consisting of order signs 2 units, signs instruction 4 units, warning signs 67 units, and prohibition signs 3 units, for this there are a shortage of traffic signs for 52 units consisting of signs instruction 9 units, warning signs 41 units, and prohibition signs 2 units.ABSTRAKTujuan melakukan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui jumlah kebutuhan perlengkapan jalan sebagai alat pengawasan terhadap pelaksanaan manajemen dan rekayasa lalu lintas dalam rangka keselamatan jalan.

Road traffic signs are part of the road infrastructure components meant to ensure the safe use of roads by motorists and pedestrians alike. A good knowledge and comprehension of road signs helps ensure smooth flow of traffic, improves safety for other motorists and provides drivers with good reaction time to comply with the message dictated by the signs. Abu Dhabi, being the capital of the UAE, brings together people from all over the world for work, business or tourism. Abu Dhabi has quality roads and traffic signage together with an efficient police force that enforces adherence to traffic rules. Despite all these and the reduced fatalities in absolute terms, traffic violations have been increasing exponentially, resulting in five million traffic fines in 2019 for a population of about 2.9 million inhabitants. This study sought to assess motorists’ comprehension of the various traffic signs used across the UAE. The results of the survey (N = 200) revealed that the drivers were able to correctly identify 77% of the road signs in the survey. It was also found that the respondents failed to correctly identify traffic signs within the specific category referred to as “advance warning signs”. Respondents’ education, nationality, gender, and marital status did not have any statistically significant effects on the results compared to earlier studies. It is recommended that more attention be focused on driver education and training.

Detection and recognition of urban road traffic signs is an important part of the Modern Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). It is a driver support function which can be used to notify and warn the driver for any possible incidence on the current stretch of road. This paper presents a robust and novel Time Space Relationship Model for high positive urban road traffic sign detection and recognition for a running vehicle. There are three main contributions of the proposed framework. Firstly, it applies fast color-segment algorithm based on color information to extract candidate areas of traffic signs and reduce the computation load. Secondly, it verifies the traffic sign candidate areas to decrease false positives and raise the accuracy by analysing the variation in preceding video-images sequence while implementing the proposed Time Space Relationship Model. Lastly, the classification is done with Support Vector Machine with dataset from real-time detection of TSRM. Experimental results indicate that the accuracy, efficiency, and the robustness of the framework are satisfied on urban road and detect road traffic sign in real time.
