This paper describes the user interface design, and subsequent usability evaluation of the EU FP6 funded Easyline+ project, which involved the development of ambient assistive technology to support elderly and disabled people in their interaction with kitchen appliances. During this process, established usability design guidelines and principles were considered. The authors’ analysis of the applicability of these has led to the development of a new set of principles, specifically for the design of ambient computer systems. This set of principles is referred to as SCUFF, an acronym for simplicity, consistency, universality, flexibility and familiarity. These evaluations suggest that adoption of the SCUFF principles was successful for the Easyline+ project, and that they can be used for other ambient technology projects, either as complementary to, or as an alternative to more generic and partially relevant principles.

Banyuwangi Regency has a new innovation called " Lahir Procot Pulang Bawa Akta " which in this innovation is realized in the form of an Online Deed Website. Every information technology has an interface that can be a link between the user and the technology itself. Interface formation is influenced by needs, and information technology has different interface designs according to the needs of its users. The User Interface has the aim of making it easier for users to operate information technology that can make users feel comfortable using the application or technology. Heuristic Evaluation is one of the Usability evaluation methods that can be used to determine the extent to which a system is used by users to achieve certain goals with effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction. This research is a research that is focused on the use of Heuristic Evaluation based on user interface design aspects of application usability through observation, interviews and questionnaires to users.

User interface (UI) design is the process of making interfaces in software or computerized devices with a focus on looks or style. Designers aim to create designs users will find easy to use and pleasurable. IU design typically refers to graphical user interfaces but also includes others, such as voice-controlled ones. In this chapter, the user interface design and the grounded learning theories are discussed. Next, the interaction styles and the types of interactions are discussed. The usability benchmark and the usability evaluation instruments are also discussed in this chapter.

Abstract – The library.umn.ac.id is the library website which is owned by the Universitas Multimedia Nusantara. The website has never been examined with usability especially its user interfaces. In conducting the evaluation, the methods of usability tests are applied that is users’ observations of the website user interface design continued by collecting and analyzing data. In addition, data is collecting by creating a questionnaire which is based on System Usability Scale (SUS) to measure users’ satisfaction when using the system. The data is analyzed by applying usability test that refers to the theory of Jacob Nielsen (2003) which is composed of five components that are learnability, efficiency, memorability, errors, and satisfaction. The results of this research, some new user interfaces are recommended for enhancing the library website that has been fully the old version. As a result, the user interfaces prototype is easy to use and easy to understand based on the students’ responses compared to the old version. Keywords-Usability Evaluation, User Interface, Usability Testing, System Usability Scale
