Ordered mesoporous materials and their modification with multiple functional groups are of wide scientific interest for many applications involving interaction with biological systems and biomolecules (e.g., catalysis, separation, sensor design, nano-science or drug delivery). In particular, the immobilization of enzymes onto solid supports is highly attractive for industry and synthetic chemistry, as it allows the development of stable and cheap biocatalysts. In this context, we developed novel silylated amino acid derivatives (Si-AA-NH2) that have been immobilized onto SBA-15 materials in biocompatible conditions avoiding the use of toxic catalyst, solvents or reagents. The resulting amino acid-functionalized materials (SBA-15@AA) were characterized by XRD, TGA, EA, Zeta potential, nitrogen sorption and FT-IR. Differences of the physical properties (e.g., charges) were observed while the structural ones remained unchanged. The adsorption of the enzyme lysozyme (Lyz) onto the resulting functionalized SBA-15@AA materials was evaluated at different pHs. The presence of different functional groups compared with bare SBA-15 showed better adsorption results, for example, 79.6 nmol of Lyz adsorbed per m2 of SBA-15@Tyr compared with the 44.9 nmol/m2 of the bare SBA-15.

The amine aldehydes resin-mesoporous materials complex AFC-SBA-15 was synthesized using ordered mesoporous materials SBA-15 as the carrier. The obtained compound was characterized by FT-IR,N2adsorption-desorption and scanning electron microscopy. The compound retained ordered mesoporous structure and the resin polymer coated inside channels and outside surface hole wall. The adsorption behavior was carried out with the presence of EDTA in binary components of Pb (II) and Zn (II). The result showed that with the presence of EDTA, tunable selectivity could be realized.

We describe a method to protect the sensitive stereochemistry of the thioamide—in analogy to the protection of the functional groups of amino acid side chains—in order to preserve the thioamide moiety during peptide elongation.<br>

AbstractRecently we proposed that heterogenous nucleation is an important phenomenon for the preparation of ordered mesoporous materials. In this paper we further investigate the effect of colloidal particles on the nucleation process of mesoporous materials. Based on the change of the electrical mobilities of the particles in the surfactant solution, we suggest that the adsorption and co-adsorption of surfactant and ceramic precursors changes local structural and chemistry on the particle surfaces, and favors the nucleation events within these regions.

Summaryk-Casein and whole casein when photo-oxidized in the presence of methylene blue lose the ability to clot when treated with rennin. Two effects are involved—first the photo-oxidation alters the k-casein fraction so that the rennin is unable to split off the glycopeptide fragment, and secondly, in whole casein the photo-oxidation interferes with the aggregation in the presence of Ca++that normally follows rennin action. As a result of amino acid analysis and specific treatments which affect other photo-oxidizable side chains, it is concluded that both of these effects are caused by the alteration of histidines.
