We propose a modulation-based adaptive power allocation (MBAPA) technique for nonlinear distortion mitigation in intermediate frequency over fiber (IFoF) systems. The technique allocates the spectral power of each IF band according to the required signal-to-noise power ratio (SNR) of the modulation format. To demonstrate the performance of the technique, transmission experiments were performed in 10 km and 20 km with 24-IF bands using OFDM signals. The feasibility of the proposed MBAPA technique was experimentally verified by reducing inter-modulation distortion (IMD) power and enhancing channel linearity.

In this paper we have analyzed the Gaussian Non-linear Interference (GNLI) spectrum considering non identical channels, non-identical links and Amplified Spontaneous Emission (ASE) noise power spectrum for Coherent Optical Transmission Network (COTN) to calculate the Optical Signal to Noise Ratio (OSNR) and Quality (Q) values. In this study, three different Baud rate values (13.875Gbaud, 27.75Gbaud, and 55.5Gbaud) are considered to compute the Q values and OSNR in the COTN. Consequently, the COTN produces 111 Gb/s, 222 Gb/s and 444 Gb/s line rates for three different Baud rate values (13.875Gbaud, 27.75Gbaud, and 55.5Gbaud) respectively in PM-16QAM modulation format. It is confirmed that the OSNR is always greater than Q values. It is also found that the differences between OSNR and Q are 0.23dB, 1.73dB, and 3.24dB for 111Gb/s, 222Gb/s and 444Gb/s line rates respectively. Here transmission of launch power per span, number of channels, number of spans and the fiber dispersion in the optical link are considered.

The moment-based M2M4 signal-to-noise (SNR) estimator was proposed for a complex sinusoidal signal with a deterministic but unknown phase corrupted by additive Gaussian noise by Sekhar and Sreenivas. The authors studied its performances only through numerical examples and concluded that the proposed estimator is asymptotically efficient and exhibits finite sample super-efficiency for some combinations of signal and noise power. In this paper, we derive the analytical asymptotic performances of the proposed M2M4 SNR estimator, and we show that, contrary to what it has been concluded by Sekhar and Sreenivas, the proposed estimator is neither (asymptotically) efficient nor super-efficient. We also show that when dealing with deterministic signals, the covariance matrix needed to derive asymptotic performances must be explicitly derived as its known general form for random signals cannot be extended to deterministic signals. Numerical examples are provided whose results confirm the analytical findings.

In this paper, subcarrier and power allocation are jointly considered in a three-node symmetric cooperation orthogonal frequency-division multiple access uplink system. With the help of Nash bargaining solution, the dynamic subcarrier allocation scheme and the adaptive power allocation scheme are proposed for joint optimization. The joint resource allocation is decomposed and solved by dynamic subcarrier allocation algorithm and adaptive power allocation algorithm. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed cooperative scheme.
