Nowadays, IoT is being used in more and more application areas and the importance of IoT data quality is widely recognized by practitioners and researchers. The requirements for data and its quality vary from application to application or organization in different contexts. Many methodologies and frameworks include techniques for defining, assessing, and improving data quality. However, due to the diversity of requirements, it can be a challenge to choose the appropriate technique for the IoT system. This paper surveys data quality frameworks and methodologies for IoT data, and related international standards, comparing them in terms of data types, data quality definitions, dimensions and metrics, and the choice of assessment dimensions. The survey is intended to help narrow down the possible choices of IoT data quality management technique.

The rapid expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT) will generate a diverse range of data types that needs to be handled, processed and stored. This paper aims to create a multi-agent system that suits the needs introduced by the IoT expansion, thus being able to oversee the Big Data collection and processing and also to maintain the semantic links between the data sources and data consumers. In order to build a complex agent oriented architecture, we have assessed the existing agent oriented methodologies searching for the best solution that is not bound to a specific programming language of framework, and it is flexible enough to be applied in such a divers domain like IoT. As complex scenario, the proposed approach has been applied to medical diagnosis and motoring of mental disorders.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is characterized by a large number of interconnected devices or assets. Measurement instruments in the IoT are typically digital in the sense that their indications are available only as digital output. Moreover, a growing number of IoT sensors contain a built-in pre-processing system, e.g., for compensating unwanted effects. This paper considers the application of metrological principles to such so-called “smart sensors” in the IoT. It addresses the calibration of digital sensors, mathematical and semantic approaches, the communication of data quality and the meaning of traceability for the IoT in general.
