Recent work has shown that Scilla campanulata agglutinin from bluebell bulbs has a strong affinity for α(1,3)- and α(1,6)-linked mannosyl residues and possesses moderate antiretroviral activity. This lectin has been crystallized by the hanging-drop method of vapour diffusion complexed with the disaccharide mannose-α1,6-D-mannose. The crystals are in the space group P21212 with unit-cell dimensions a = 70.63, b = 92.79 and c = 47.25 Å, and with a dimer in the asymmetric unit. The crystals diffract X-rays to beyond 1.5 Å resolution at 277 K and are stable in an X-ray beam. Data to 1.6 Å resolution have been collected using a MAR image-plate system at a synchrotron source and the structure of the complex has been solved by the molecular replacement method.

The application of nanomaterials in cement by replacement method in concrete is becoming a trend in cement research. The utilisation of nanosilica, nanoalumina, titanium oxide and others are proven to enhance properties of concrete. The major effect of nanomaterials is its size in which it contributes to the packing theory due to increase in the surface area. nanokaolin which comes from kaolin, was tansformed to the nanoform by using high energy milling. The process of developing nanokaolin by using high energy milling is referred to process top to bottom approach in nanoprocessing technique. In this research, the nanokaolin will be used as an additive in cement by 7% weight of cement. Four (4) cement replacement materials catered by using metakaolin on weight basis from 0, 10%, 20% and 30% will also be adopted. To determine the fresh state, cement paste contains nanokaolin and metakaolin are tested its standard consistency and setting time. The effect of the inclusion of the nanokaolin as additive in cement paste that also contains metakaolin as cement replacement material will be investigated. It was found the inclusion of 7% nanokaolin increases the water demand of the cement paste level of metakaolin replacement. In addition to that, the setting time namely initial and final set was been delayed as compared to that of plain OPC. The nanoparticles of nanokaolin and also finer particles of metakaolin increase the surface area and refining the internal structure of cement paste which reduce the flow capabilities of cement paste containing nanokaolin and metakaolin.

The 2-carboxy-6-hydroxyoctahydroindole moiety is an essential residue for the antithrombotic activity of aeruginosins, which are a class of cyanobacteria-derived bioactive linear tetrapeptides. The biosynthetic pathway of the 2-carboxy-6-hydroxyoctahydroindole moiety has not yet been resolved. AerF was indicated to be involved in the biosynthesis of the 2-carboxy-6-hydroxyoctahydroindole moiety. This study reports the cloning, expression, purification, crystallization and preliminary X-ray diffraction analysis of AerF fromMicrocystis aeruginosawith a C-terminal His6tag. The crystal diffracted to a maximum resolution of 1.38 Å and belonged to the tetragonal space groupP4322, with unit-cell parametersa=b= 101.581,c= 116.094 Å. The calculated Matthews coefficient and solvent content of the crystal were 2.47 Å3 Da−1and 50.32%, respectively. The initial model of the structure was obtained by the molecular-replacement method and refinement of the structure is in progress.

PT Lucas Djaja is a company engaged in the pharmaceutical industry which produce sterile drugs and non-sterile. Filling machine has a high failure rate and expensive corrective maintenance cost. PT Lucas Djaja has a policy to perform engine maintenance by way of corrective maintenance. The study focused on the critical components, namely bearing R2, bearing 625 and bearing 626. When the replacement of the failure done by the company is currently using the formula mean time to failure with the result of bearing R2 at point 165 days, bearing 625 at a point 205 days, and bearing 626 at a point 182 days. Solutions generated by using age replacement method with minimization of total maintenance cost given on the bearing R2 at a point 60 days, bearing 625 at the point of 80 days and bearing 626 at a point 40 days.
