This paper presents simulation and design results for Transformerless Power Converters which are to be used in conjunction with a PV array for solar applications. The set of converters consists of a boost converter as well as a single-phase inverter for conversion of DC supply from the array to a usable AC voltage. The power extraction from the array is done by using the Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm. Simulation is done on Proteus and PSIM.

Solar Photo Voltaic system are used for power generation by the process of photovoltaic effect. The solar power is varying continuously on a particular day due the variations in the temperature and irradiances. To overcome the power loss of PV system maximum power point tracking techniques are used to generate maximum solar power . Generally digital signal processors are used for implementing maximum power point tracking algorithms, but the performance is limited. The high degree of flexibility is achieved by the use of field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA) chips. The PV systems are used to provide stable and reliable power. The paper presents the single-phase implementation of the grid connected PV system and FPGS based P&O MPPT algorithm. The proposed system consists of P&O MPPT algorithm for maximum solar power extraction, bi-directional DC-DC converter for is used for controlling the battery. The solar power is used to serve the connected load and the excess power is used for serving grid utility. The single-phase inverter is used for DC-AC conversion. The Xilinx ISE is used for simulation of MPPT algorithm. The grid connected PV system is simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK.

At present the multi-stage transformation topology are more used in photovoltaic (PV) grid-connected system, although the control of this structure is relatively simple but the conversion efficiency is difficult to improve due to increase in transformation series. The single stage topology has a simple topology with high reliability and efficiency because of low power consumption, but control algorithm is more complex because of its power convert main circuit without DC-DC. This paper describes a method for maximum power point tracking (MPPT) in the single-stage and single-phase PV grid-connected system. In the paper, the nonlinear output characteristics of the PV including I-V & P-V are obtained in changed solar insulations or temperature based on MATLAB, and the MPPT algorithm which is based on the particle swarm optimization (PSO) method is also described. The simulation model of the single-stage and single-phase PV grid-connected system is built , and simulation results show the MPPT algorithm has excellent dynamic and static performances ,which verifies the PSO method is effective for MPPT in the single-stage and single-phase PV grid-connected system.
