Over the past two decades, the coastal waters of Jinhae Bay have been extensively used by coastal communities and industries for the disposal of domestic and various industrial wastes, therefore increasing the level of pollutants in coastal waters with a subsequent increase in sediments, especially of heavy metals. Specific objectives of this research are to investigate the distribution of heavy metal concentration in biota, to compare the concentrations with those in sediment and water and to relate the bioconcentration to the different heavy metals in biota obtained from several sites. Sixty one percent of heavy metals was found in particulate form during the high runoff season and 32% during the dry season. The behavior of the particulate metals after flowing in to the enclosed coastal sea is an important factor in heavy metal contamination. Copper, lead and chromium contamination of sediment was revealed at several sites. The bioconcentration factors (BCFs) of zinc, cadmium, copper, nickel, chromium and lead by the mussel (Mytilus edulis) were determined as 2,900, 2,814, 807, 423, 228 and 127 in the decreasing order, respectively. The areas located nearest to highly populated city and industries exhibited mussels with the largest accumulation of copper, lead and chromium.

Some aspects of reproductive biology of the mudskipper Apocryptes bato (Hamilton 1822) from the coastal waters of Chittagong, Bangladesh was conducted. Disproportionate occurrence of male and female (1.20 : 1) was observed in the number of two sexes. A prolonged spawning season was found from June to early October with a single peak. The aspects in the ovary indicate one complete spawning of females in a single spawning season. The fecundity was found to vary from 7453 - 31195 with an average of 17590 ± 6867. Significant coefficient of correlation between the diameters of the eggs of corresponding anterior, middle and posterior regions of the right and left ovaries indicated the simultaneous release of eggs from both the ovaries. A much closer relationship of fecundity and the significant ‘t’ values indicated fecundity increases with the increase of total length, standard length, body weight and gonad weight. Asiat. Soc. From an analysis and comparison of various counts and measurements made on herring from different localities along the coast it is concluded that intermingling of the stock as a whole is limited and that there exist a number of essentially discrete units or local populations within the waters of the province. The evidence for this conclusion is based on gradations in mean vertebral and keeled scale counts with latitude and on significant and constant differences between herring of different localities in one or more of the following characters: total vertebral count, abdominal vertebral count, sex ratio, rate of growth, head length and length to the insertion of the dorsal fin. Data on these characters are analyzed as completely as feasible in an attempt to interpret all sources of variation.
