scholarly journals Antenna Systems for Base Station Applications

Base Station is the primary unit of any mobile communication system. An antenna is the most important part of the Base Station as it is responsible for exchange of all the electrical signals and electromagnetic waves radiations. From the last two decades there is huge advancement in the mobile communications and so as in the antennas for the base stations. This advancement gives rise to new designs of antennas with different specifications for different applications. In this paper, we discussed different geometries, designed earlier for the base station applications. The structures and respective results of antennas are discussed in the paper.

This article reports the findings of a mobile communications survey mailed out to over 2,000 trucking firms. The findings indicate that 68% of respondents use some form of mobile communication system in their firm. Various types of mobile communication systems were reported, including two-way pagers, one-way pagers, cell phones, two-way radio, and satellite communications. Additionally, implementation decision factors for mobile communication systems were evaluated for both users and non-users of mobile communication systems.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to evaluate performance of mobile communication system with reliability measures. Design/methodology/approach – The mobile communication system consists of a mobile station (MS), base transceiver station (BTS), base station controller (BSC) and the mobile switching center. The MS is connected to BTS, BTS is connected to BSC and BSC is connected with the mobile switching system. With the help of these stations working, the authors have developed a mathematical model using Markovian approach. Findings – Using the supplementary variable technique, the Laplace transformations and Markov process theory, the reliability indices of the mobile communication system are determined. Originality/value – In the present work, the authors have developed a mathematical model based on a mobile communication system.
