scholarly journals Blockchain Usage in the Electronic Health Record System using Attribute-Based Signature

Block-chain is a list of records which are stored in its blocks that are linked through cryptography. It is used previously for bitcoin transactions only. Now the government and also other organizations are going to use this block-chain in different fields. Electronic Health Records (EHRs) are used for storing the information about the patients. In EHR the information is stored in the paper through web which has some disadvantages. Here we use block-chain and Attribute- Based Signatures (ABS) to store the information about the patient’s in the blocks of block-chain which is stored in cloud. By this we can provide security to the patient data and also there are no storage problems and also through ABS we provide some attributes to the users who are going to access the data of patient.

This paper deals with the Electronic Health Records for storing information of the patient which consist of the medical reports. Electronic Health Records (EHRs) are entirely controlled by Hospitals instead of patients, which complicates seeking medical advices from different hospitals. In the existing system of storing details of the patients are very dependent on the servers of the organization. In the proposed all the information of the patient are stored in the blockchain by using the Metamask and these details are stored in the block chain as a blocks of data. Each block consists of the data which is encrypted data. Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems record health-related information on an individual so that it can be consulted by clinicians or staff for patient care. The data is encrypted by the algorithm known as SHA-256 which is used to encrypt all the data of the patients into a single line 256 bit encrypted text which will be stored in the block at etherscan. These records for not only useful for the consultation but also for creation of historic family health information tree that keeps track of genetic health issues and diseases it can also be used for any health service with the authorization from both the patient and medical organization.

The Australian government’s Australian Digital Health Agency is working towards its goal of enrolling every Australian in My Health Record, its national electronic health record system. This article reports findings from a qualitative project involving interviews and focus groups with Australian women about their use of digital health across the range of technologies available to them, including their attitudes to and experiences of My Health Record. A feminist new materialism perspective informed the project, working to surface the affordances, affective forces and relational connections that contributed to the opening up or closing off potential agential capacities when people come together with digitised systems such as My Health Record. These findings demonstrate that people’s personal experiences and feelings, the actions of others such as the agencies responsible for system implementation and function, their healthcare providers and broader social, cultural, technological and political factors are important in shaping their knowledge, interest in and acceptance of an electronic health record system. Even among this group of participants, who were experienced and active in finding and engaging with health information online, uncertainty and a lack of awareness of and interest in My Health Record were evident among many. Affordances such as technical difficulties were major barriers to enrolling and using the system successfully. No participants had yet found any benefit or use for it. Affective forces such as lack of trust and faith in the Australian government’s general technological expertise and concerns about data privacy and security were also key in many participants’ accounts.

The usage of electronic health records is widely used today in the modern medicine field due to its immense benefits. These benefits include and are not limited to allowing physician to access a patient’s chart remotely, provide alerts to a potential medication error and critical lab values. However, the usage of this technology in Traditional Malay Medicine is limited. This paper explores the acceptance usage of electronic health records in Traditional Malay Medicine in five healthcare organisations including private Traditional Malay Medicine practitioners in Malaysia. This research utilizes the exploratory prototyping approach where a prototype, MyPostnatalSys is developed and used to gain constructive feedback of the acceptance of electronic health records. MyPostnatalSys, an electronic health record prototype, was developed for integrating Traditional Malay Medicine and Modern Medicine services using an interoperability standard, HL7. The purpose of interoperability standards is to ensure patient data can be transmitted across multi-platform systems seamlessly. The results show that more than 90% respondents have shown a positive acceptance on the usage of electronic health records in Traditional Malay Medicine. However, there may exist some resistance in accepting electronic health records technology in private Traditional Malay Medicine practitioners. However Traditional Malay practitioners trained by a government led initiative for women’s health, Mamacare programme, are more open to accept the implementation. This shows that upskilling programmes such as Mamacare can reduce the barriers of acceptance in electronic health records in Traditional Malay practitioners.

 With a view to overcome the shortcomings of traditional Electronic Health Record (EHR) system so as to assure the interoperability by providing open access to sensitive health data, while still preserving personal data privacy, anonymity and avoiding data misuse, Decentralized Electronic Health Record System was developed. The aforementioned issue concerning traditional EHR system can be addressed by implication of emerging technology of the era namely Block chain, together with Inter Planetary File System (IPFS) which enables data sharing in decentralized and transactional fashion, thereby maintaining delicate balance between privacy and accessibility of electronic health records. A block chain based EHR system has been built for secure, efficient and interoperable access to medical records by both patients and doctors while preserving privacy of the sensitive patient’s information. Patients can easily and comprehensively access to their medical records across providers and treatment sites using unique properties of block chain and decentralized storage. A separate portal for both the patients and doctors has been built enabling the smart contracts to handle further interaction between doctors and patients. So, in this system, it is demonstrated how principles of decentralization and block chain architectures could contribute to EHR system using Ethereum smart contracts and IPFS to orchestrate a suitable system governing the medical record access while providing patients with comprehensive record review along with consideration for audit ability and data sharing.

With the quick selection of the Cloud-based Electronic Health Record ( EHR) frameworks, health providers are particularly concerned about overseeing cloud-based information protection. Current methodologies either have a flexibility bottleneck requiring patients to accept each sharing of their clinical details or a confidence bottleneck by providing a sole power control of each entry, thus increasing the issue of a single intention of attack. The exchange of electronic health records ( EHRs) has a very good centrality for infection studies and the commitment of specialists Lately, a cloud-based electronic health record sharing program has offered a range of conveniences, but cloud centralization unfailingly opens up risks to information security and safety. Blockchain innovation can be seen as a positive solution to addressing these issues by virtue of its one kind of decentralization, namelessness, unforgeability, and unquestionable status.

BACKGROUND Acceptance of Electronic Health Record systems is considered an essential factor for an effective implementation among the Healthcare providers. In an attempt to understand the healthcare providers’ perceptions on the Electronic Health Record systems implementation and evaluate the factors influencing healthcare providers’ acceptance of Electronic Health Records, the current research examines the effects of individual (user) context factors, and organizational context factors, using Technology Acceptance Model. OBJECTIVE The current research examines the effects of individual (user) context factors, and organizational context factors, using Technology Acceptance Model. METHODS A quantitative cross-sectional survey design was used, in which 319 healthcare providers from five public hospital participated in the present study. Data was collected using a self-administered questionnaire, which was based on the Technology Acceptance Model. RESULTS Jordanian healthcare providers demonstrated positive perceptions of the usefulness and ease of use of Electronic Health Record systems, and subsequently, they accepted the technology. The results indicated that they had a significant effect on the perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of Electronic Health Record, which in turn was related to positive attitudes towards Electronic Health Record systems as well as the intention to use them. CONCLUSIONS User attributes, organizational competency, management support and training and education are essential variables in predicting healthcare provider’s acceptance toward Electronic Health records. These findings should be considered by healthcare organizations administration to introduce effective system to other healthcare organizations.
