Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in China have seen massive as well as viable progress in recent years owing to different factors which has progressively contributed to China’s economic development. Frail bonds with external market and technological revolution, and limited SME funding, lack of proactiveness and risk taking is threatening the sustainability of such development and lowering the entrepreneurial orientation (EO) among the populace. It is against this backdrop that this study was conducted to examine level of OE among Chinese firms as well as factors influencing the development of EO spirit among Chinese firms. The study used Statistical Package for Social Scientist (SPSS) and Microsoft Excel to conduct both descriptive and inferential analysis like mean, standard deviation, and graphical representation, t-test, Correlation, Multiple Regression Analysis, R-Square, F-statistics and Variance Inflator Factors (VIF) to determine the determinants of EO of four hundred (400) SMEs Jiangsu Province of China. The finding of the study supported available literature and confirmed innovation, risk-taking and proactiveness to be the main determinants of entrepreneurial orientation. Other factors that affect EO included structural and relational support, availability of relevant resources, informalization of institutions as well as breaking down bureaucracies and extending corporate boundaries. The main objective of this chapter is to analyze the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and competitive advantage on Portuguese exporting textiles small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Therefore, a quantitative methodological approach was used, conducting a descriptive, exploratory, and transversal empirical study, having applied a questionnaire to a sample of Portuguese SMEs, associated of the Portuguese textile association (ATP). The structural equations model was used for this purpose, using the partial least squares (PLS). Based on survey data from 247 firms, the empirical results indicate that 1) innovation have a positive and significant impact on differentiation, 2) proactivity and risk-taking does not have a positive and significant impact on differentiation, and 3) innovation, proactivity, and risk-taking does not have a positive and significant impact on cost leadership. This study shows that Portuguese textile SMEs seek to support and stimulate new ideas, experimentation, and creativity that surely result in new products, services, and processes.

This study examines the effect of entrepreneurial orientation on performance of selected small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) in Southeast Nigeria. The problems that led to this study include, inadequate access to finance, poor infrastructure, inconsistency with government policy, poor support (business development work), inadequate sales, too many taxes and obsolete technologies leading to massive failures. It has not been found that the epileptic growth of SMEs in Southeast Nigeria is not only due to the problems but also from the entrepreneurial orientation. The survey research method was employed in this study and the study relied on secondary and primary data. The population of this study was drawn from SMEs in the five states in the Southeast Nigeria. The study was done using three hundred and sixty six small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Complete enumeration was adopted. Simple regression analysis was used to analysis the hypotheses. The study revealed that there is a significant positive relationship between pro-activeness, innovativeness and risk taking on performance of SMEs in Southeast Nigeria. The study concluded that entrepreneurial-oriented firms tend to lead the industry with innovations, performing things in a better approach to satisfy customers and give the firm a better leverage. The study recommends that SMEs owners and managers should be committed to process and radical innovation in their dealings so as to increase and expand their customer base.

Abstract Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has a relatively low level of entrepreneurial activity as evidenced by GEM reports but also has an economic structure in which SMEs account for about 99% of the total number of enterprises. The goal of this paper was to examine the level of entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and influence of EO on business performances of SMEs in the Republic of Srpska (RS), one of the two BiH entities, in which the empirical research was done. We have used adapted Covin & Slevin (1989) version of the questionnaire. We found out that only 12.28% of sampled SMEs have all three dimensions of EO pronounced. The least pronounced dimension is risk-taking and the most pronounced dimension is proactiveness. Our research did not confirm the impact of EO on selected indicators of business performances.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of entrepreneurial orientation on entrepreneurial success. The study population is the 9,450 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) who are registered members of the National Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME), National Association of Small Scale Industrialists (NASSI) and Association of Small Business Owners in Nigeria (ASBON) in Lagos State. The study employs probability sampling technique and specifically, proportionate stratified random sampling method to select it samples from the sampling frame. Sample size of 381 determined using the formula developed by the National Education Association (1960) for sample size determination was used for this study. The study employed questionnaire as research instrument to collect primary data on the dependent variable (Entrepreneurial success) and independent variable (Entrepreneurial orientation). Entrepreneurial orientation measures are: Innovativeness, Proactiveness and Risk taking while measures for entrepreneurial success are: profitability, market share, net asset growth, sales growth and government policies. The questionnaire was pretested by a pilot study of 50 selected SMEs. Data from the pilot study was analyzed and based on the result, the questionnaire was slightly modified giving an overall Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.853. The value of F (3,206) = 21.848, p <.05, shows that the combined effect of innovativeness, risk taking and pro-activeness was statistically significant in explaining changes in entrepreneurial success in Lagos State. The findings of the study also reveal that entrepreneurial pro-activeness had the highest influence on SMEs entrepreneurial success because the p value was 0.000 followed by risk taking with 0.007, and lastly innovativeness with a p value of 0.942. This finding may be of help to the owner/managers of SMEs to be more entrepreneurial oriented and developed competitive edge in order for them to survive the intensely competitive market environment.

Building on well established theories, our research explores the influence of entrepreneurial orientation on reputational resources and absorptive capacity of knowledge exploitation of Portuguese small and medium enterprises (SMEs) of footwear associated to the Portuguese Footwear, Components and Leather Goods Association (APICCAPS).Therefore, a quantitative methodological approach was used, conducting a descriptive, exploratory and transversal empirical study, having applied a questionnaire to a sample of Portuguese SMEs.Based on survey data from 42 firms, our empirical results indicate that globally entrepreneurial orientation have a positive and significant influence on knowledge exploitation and that the entrepreneurial orientation’s dimensions that most contribute to this end are innovation and risk-taking.Moreover, the processes for exploitation of reputational resources and knowledge became an essential element for firms to adapt to changes in the competitive environment. The exploitation of this resources and capacities should be undertaken with innovation, proactivity and risk-taking.

Entrepreneurial Marketing (EM) Dimensions play a critical role in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) performance. The extant study explored the effect of EM dimensions on the performance of SMEs operating within Nasarawa State, Nigeria. EM was conceptualized as innovativeness, risk-taking, and value creation. The research population was 1979 registered SMEs in Nasarawa state, Nigeria. The sample size was 322 which was determined using Raosoft sample size calculator. Out of 322 sets of questionnaire distributed, 136 were validly filled and returned. The data collected were analyzed using Regression Analysis technique to test the study’s hypotheses using Statistical Product and Service Solutions software. Results specify that all three of the EM dimensions under study have significant effect on SME performance. In terms of contribution to the model, the explanatory variables were able to contribute 62.1 percent to the variable of interest (SME performance). On individual basis, innovativeness explained the most to the criterion variable. The findings of this study offer important insights for owners and managers of SMEs, researchers, and policymakers to further understand the effects of EM dimensions on SMEs’ performance. SMEs should be encouraged to embrace the entrepreneurial dimensions of innovativeness, risk taking, and value creation to increase business performance.

The importance of entrepreneurial orientation (EO), resource-based view (RBV), network types of social capital (SC) and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have become the main focus in the manufacturing environment. The current study investigates 1. The relationship between EO and Manufacturing SMEs performance and 2. The moderating effect of intra- and extra-industry network in EO and manufacturing SMEs performance relationship. Quantitative method was done through survey. The population of this study was industrial SMEs in Tehran and Hamedan. Proportionate stratified random sampling was employed and out of 580 questionnaires sent out, only 150 questionnaires were returned. The result implies that the dimensions of EO positively improved manufacturing SMEs performance. In addition the result shows that the high intra-industry network strongly moderates the relationship between innovativeness and growth-profit ability and also strongly moderates the relationship between risk-taking and growth-profitability. Contributions and limitations of the study are also discussed accordingly.

The purpose of this paper is to explore the main determinants of growth in small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in India. The empirical research has suggested that firm growth is determined not only by the traditional characteristics of size and age but also by other firm-specific factors such as indebtedness, internal financing, future growth opportunities, process and product innovation, and organisational changes. No empirical evidence has been provided so far on which of these determining factors are associated with SMEs growth and performance in India. Using a panel dataset of 560 fast growing small and medium enterprises from India the author finds evidence that firm size and age can explain to a large extend the growth in SMEs in India. Firm specific characteristics such as short-term liquidity, future growth opportunities, internally generated funds, and factor productivity are found to be important factors in determining a firm's growth and performance. Economy-wide factors such as inflation and corporate income tax rate (but not gross domestic product) seem to have a significant effect on SMEs growth in India.
