As foreign trade has become more spread, the country of production and even the origin of the raw material used in the production has become an important factor. Mentioning the country of origin on the label of the product dates back to World War-I when “Good product sells itself” understanding is dominant. In this study, the image of country of origin was evaluated with fuzzy set theory. Fuzzy sets theory lays foundation for the methods used in the solution of relative and uncertain problems. As image evaluation is a relative issue, these methods were used in our study. The first phase in the study model is data collection. Data collected was used to determine image factors, calculate factor loads (weights) and order alternatives. In the determination of image factors Fuzzy Cognitive Mapping (FCM) method was employed. To calculate factor and alternative weights Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method was used. In the phase of ordering of alternatives which are called product group elements both Fuzzy AHP and TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) method were employed. TOPSIS is based on the main principle of similarity to ideal solution and is employed to solve problem and make decision. In our study FCM, Fuzzy AHP and TOPSIS methods were used in stages, analyses were performed and solutions were developed. In the final part, there are evaluations with regard to which product group will be more effective when which image is minimized.

The paper presents a method for determining the global sensitivity indices of the vibrostability limit to the change of mass-damping-spring parameters in machine tool models. The non-stationary character of the models is handled by the analysis of variants. The global sensitivity indices are calculated on the basis of the frequency of variant appearance and the vibrostability limit that corresponds to each variant. To compute the global sensitivity indices fuzzy set theory is applied.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to develop a decision-support system based on fuzzy set theory, which can estimate welfare depending on the production responses of broiler chickens raised in climatic chambers. In the first phase, the influence of four different air temperature conditions on the performance of broilers was identified. Thus, the effect of air temperature on productivity was evaluated. In the second phase, a model was developed using the fuzzy set theory, in which feed intake responses, weight gain, and feed conversion were established according to age and the air temperature at which the birds were maintained, obtaining an efficient evaluation of the thermal environment. The results indicate that the proposed methodology is a promising technique for the determination of the level of thermal comfort endured by broilers, capable of assisting in making decisions on control of the thermal environment, avoiding productivity losses.

Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is a widely used multi-attribute decision-making (MADM) approach. Due to the complexity and uncertainty involved in real world problems, decision makers might be prefer to make fuzzy judgments instead of crisp ones. Furthermore, even when people use the same words, individual judgments of events are invariably subjective, and the interpretations that they attach to the same words may differ. This is why fuzzy numbers has been introduced to characterize linguistic variables. Fuzzy AHP methods have recently been extended by using type-2 fuzzy sets. Type-2 fuzzy set theory incorporates the uncertainty of membership functions into the fuzzy set theory. In this chapter, the authors firstly provide a short review on applications of interval type-2 fuzzy AHP on MADM problems. Then, they present a very efficient MADM technique, interval type-2 fuzzy AHP, to solve the portfolio selection problem that is to decide which stocks are to be chosen for investment and in what proportions they will be bought. And finally, they provided a case study on BIST.

Copper raw materials have not been identified as a critical raw material for the economy of the European Union (EU). Demand for metal for use within the EU is satisfied mainly by imports of raw materials in various processing stages and from recycling. Imports include not only copper concentrates, but also refined metals, alloys, and intermediate and finished products. In terms of EU imports, mining supplies represent a minor share of demand. It is likely that copper demand will grow in the coming decades and that global as well as European reserves of copper will be depleted more rapidly. For Europe, no complete and harmonised dataset presenting estimates of total EU copper resources and reserves exists, with the exception of the attempted Minerals4EU project. In colloquial language, many imprecise concepts aim at describing reality. Classic probability tools cannot be used to describe imperfect information. There are no sharp thresholds between the boundaries of many measurements; instead, smooth transitions are observed. This gradation between full and partial membership and non-membership is not included in classical set theory; thus, the capacity for describing such effects is provided by fuzzy set theory. An attempt is made in the present paper at a fuzzy description of the copper reserve base in the EU countries. The basic terminology of fuzzy sets is presented and useful logical operators are indicated. The copper reserve base in the EU countries was assessed in relation to world reserves and an appraisal of this base within these countries was carried out.
