The history of loxodrome is described in detail. The inaccuracies and errors related to loxodrome including its definition and significance are shown and clarified with the help of examples from the present cartographic literature. Facts usually omitted in cartography are presented, i.e. uncertainty of definition using two points and real picture in the Mercator projection. Problems related to the length of loxodrome and its parts are numerically solved and graphically presented. Loxodrome offers unsolved issues even in present days.

The article attempts to substantiate the theoretical and methodological principles of biographical historical and pedagogical studies in Germany, based on developments in the field of pedagogical, psychological biographistics. The problem of constructing a real picture of the historical and pedagogical process that took place in German society is actualized. The leading task of biographistics, German researchers identified the return of the names of cultural and educational figures who contributed to the creation and development of the national German school and pedagogy, but due to certain gaps, prohibitions did not receive adequate coverage and were not studied. The significance of addressing the origins of German science and culture through the microhistory of an individual to create a complete history of pedagogical progress of the German ethnic group is substantiated.

The evolution of deep-sea investigations with the use of diving-vessels is directly connected to the development of submarine navigation. It seems that a trustworthy elucidation of some historical facts will help to restore the real picture of this branch of oceanology. We are speaking about the Russian and Soviet contribution to the development of submarine navigation and, later, underwater investigations, which is insufficiently elucidated in modern works on the history of depth development. This necessitates reviving some events directly connected with the subject under consideration in the form of brief references.

Memoirs are one of the important types of historical sources. The article first gives a general overview of memoirs on the Soviet period in the history of Uzbekistan. The classification of memoirs by their ideological orientation and time of writing is given. The characteristic features of memoirs belonging to the pen of various groups of memoirists – veterans of the revolution, civil and Great Patriotic Wars, party and Soviet workers, literary and art workers, are revealed. The author shows the flaws inherent in individual groups of memoirs that require a critical approach to their use as historical sources. It is concluded that although a significant part of the memoirs of this period is saturated with the spirit of communist ideology, nevertheless, the critical use of this layer of sources in conjunction with documentary materials and other sources will help to recreate the real picture of the life of Soviet society
